Michael Rapaport Sues Barstool Sports I Don't Have Herpes!!

Published | Updated

2:38 PM PT -- Dave Portnoy has released a statement to TMZ Sports ... saying “Michael Rapaport is a loser. There is nothing worse than somebody who claims to be the king of trash talk and then cries when people respond in kind."

"Unfortunately as much I’d love to take credit for ruining his career he did it to himself by being an unhinged lunatic. We wish him nothing but the best as he fades into oblivion.”

Michael Rapaport says that sore on his lip is NOT herpes -- and now he's suing Barstool Sports claiming the media outlet and its most famous staffers are defaming him.

Rapaport used to work with Barstool -- in fact, he had a podcast on Barstool's platform.

But, the two sides had a nasty breakup back in February after Rapaport referred to "Stoolies" as "losers in life."

Barstool president Dave Portnoy told TMZ Sports at the time the move was not a publicity stunt -- "To me, it was very personal. It was very real."

Rapaport claims Barstool then embarked on a smear campaign against him -- publicly claiming he suffered from herpes and creating a t-shirt (which they sold) highlighting a sore on Rap's mouth.

Rapaport says some of the staffers -- including Portnoy, KFC and Smitty -- mocked him publicly, calling him names like "herpe having, race baiting, D-list actor" and "old crusty herpe."

Rapaport says he's been defamed -- because he "does not suffer from herpes."

He's suing Barstool for unspecified damages. He's also suing for breach of contract claiming his firing was unlawful and Barstool never paid him hundreds of thousands of dollars he claims they still owe.

THE CASE CAN BE MADE
TMZSports.com

David Wright is finally back ... and he's getting some serious praise from Tim Tebow!

"I think he's one of the best players to ever play for the Mets," Tebow told us while battling the rain in New York City.

35-year-old Wright was just activated from the disabled list after being sidelined in May 2016.

Wright suffered a bunch of injuries including spinal stenosis -- and some people thought he would never play baseball again.

But, Mets activated him Tuesday -- and he's scheduled to play Saturday when the Mets take on the Marlins at Citi Field in Queens ... the crowd is gonna go nuts!

Wright is expected to hang it up after this season -- and while he's probably not a Hall of Famer, some people would like to see his #5 jersey retired.

The numbers are impressive -- 7-time All-Star, 2-time Gold Glove, 2-time Silver Slugger and he's been the Mets captain since 2013 (only the 4th captain in team history).

NFL's Everson Griffen Escaped from Ambulance Before Mental Health Evaluation

Published | Updated

Minnesota Vikings defensive end Everson Griffen jumped out of an ambulance fearing someone was going to shoot him -- while he was being transported for a mental health evaluation.

It's all in the police report filed by the Minnetrista PD -- which paints a sad picture of an NFL star in a serious mental health crisis.

The situation began early Saturday morning when a Vikings staffer called cops to report the 3-time Pro Bowler was acting bizarrely and the team feared he could either hurt himself or others.

Cops eventually made contact with Everson's wife, Tiffany, who said he had been fighting "demons" in his head -- and acting erratically.

Tiffany told police Everson was not on medication "but should be."

A short time later, Tiffany told police she got a call from the fiancee of Everson's teammate, Trae Waynes, who said Everson "broke into their home and jumped through some bushes" while not wearing a shirt.

Cops went to check it out -- but he was already gone.

Turns out, he went to a nearby gas station where he saw a man he recognized -- but did not know well.

Everson got into the man's passenger seat and ordered him to drive around. The driver freaked out and called Everson's wife. Cops found the car and ultimately called paramedics to treat Everson.

Cops say Everson agreed to be transported to a hospital for a mental health exam -- but during the drive, he got spooked when a few deer ran across the road ... and jumped out of the vehicle.

He told officials "he was in fear that someone was going to shoot him."

Everson was eventually transported to the hospital where he is still being treated.

Vikings GM Rick Spielman said the team was "currently focused on Everson's well-being and providing the appropriate support for him and his family" ... and head coach Mike Zimmer added "it's about him getting better."

Joe Theismann Rips NFL's Roughing-The-Passer Rule ... 'It's Absurd!'

Joe Theismann on New NFL Rule
ABSOLUTELY ABSURD

Joe Theismann says the NFL should straight-up just take the pads off QBs now ... 'cause the league's new roughing-the-passer penalty "has reached the point of absurdity."

The ex-Redskins quarterback watched guys like Clay Matthews get flagged for simply tackling QBs all day Sunday ... and he was LIVID.

So much so -- Joe tells TMZ Sports the next step for the NFL will be to just eliminate QB hits from the game altogether.

"This is my question to the NFL, 'What is the defensive player supposed to do?' Would somebody please explain it to him?" Theismann says.

Remember ... Theismann's career was ended by a violent hit to the QB -- and even he can't believe some of the flags he's seen through three weeks so far.

"You wanted an offensive game, I understand that," he tells us.

"But now you've reached the point of absurdity."

Still ... even with all the flags protecting QBs -- Joe had a hard time watching passers not slide ... telling us that's why Jimmy Garoppolo's season is over after just 3 games.

By the way ... Joe says Jimmy should be ready to go for the 2019 season -- if he follows some of the tips Joe learned during his lengthy rehab process.

We're told he touched down in NOLA early Monday morning and is set to perform as scheduled -- this on the heels of being sidelined with flu for 2 shows in Miami.

As for the aggressive approach to treatment ... we're told Drake chose to get extra medical care this weekend because there's a lot of money on the line with this tour.

Like we've told you ... the tour was already pushed back once before, and the quartet has had other issues on the road as well. For now, it's full steam ahead.

Childish Gambino Spotted in Wheelchair ... Prior to Dallas Concert Injury

Published | Updated

9:59 AM PT -- Glover also performed Friday in Vegas at the iHeartRadio Music Festival. We're told he arrived to his set in a wheelchair and leg brace, removing it before he got onstage. It appears Sunday night's incident was a result of aggravating the preexisting injury. It seems to support what several eyewitnesses told us, which is that he appears to have broken his foot.

6:50 AM PT -- We're told an official at the American Airlines Center said after the show Childish Gambino broke his foot.

Childish Gambino was injured Sunday night in Dallas during a concert.

He was onstage at the American Airlines Center and 30 minutes before the concert was set to end he suddenly walked off stage and didn't return.

It's unclear what happened. One concertgoer tells us Childish Gambino -- aka Donald Glover -- was attempting to do the splits and hurt himself. Several others say he misstepped during a dance move.

He left the stage without performing his songs, "Redbone" and "3005."

It was part of his This is America Tour. He repeated his promise last night ... that this would be his last concert tour ever.

People in the crowd seemed confused when Childish Gambino left the stage. They began doing the wave, hoping for an encore. The announcer then told the crowd the concert was over.

We do not know the severity of the injury.

Drake Serious Illness Triggered Concert Cancellations

Published | Updated

Drake was seriously ill this week ... something his team didn't want out, but now the man himself is acknowledging it.

Drake canceled 2 Miami concerts Friday and Saturday at the American Airlines Arena. We were told Friday there was an issue with production, but that's clearly not the case.

Drake just went public, saying "I got so ill so fast I had never experienced anything like that in my life."

It seems Drake was actually hospitalized by what he said ... "Thank you to the two doctors and nurse that helped me with round the clock care." It's possible, of course, he was treated at a hotel, but with 2 doctors and a nurse ... sounds pretty serious.

He then expresses gratitude to the man upstairs, saying, "Thank you God for allowing me to recover and continue."

Suge Jacob Knight tells TMZ ... despite his father striking a 28-year plea deal in his murder case Thursday, he's staying positive about the situation. He admits he's incredibly concerned about his dad's health, but says Suge's a fighter ... and he's always going to be alright.

Still, Suge Jr. seems pretty upset over the outcome of his dad's case ... and thinks it's time someone gives him a break.

We broke the story ... the 53-year-old former rap mogul pled no contest to voluntary manslaughter in the killing of Terry Carter. Suge will get 28 years in prison but he'll get credit for time served, and due to prison overcrowding, he could get out in just over 10 years.

That's still a long time, considering Suge's health issues, but his son's trying to keep the faith.

Eric Dickerson We Want $300k A Year For HOFers

IT'S TIME TO PAY UP

Eric Dickerson is demanding Hall of Famers get a respectable salary for life ... and now he's revealing exactly what they deserve, telling TMZ Sports they want $300k a year.

Dickerson announced he formed a committee with a group of HOFers -- including Jerry Rice, Deion Sanders and Jim Brown -- and demanded the NFL provide them with access to health care and a yearly salary.

In a letter to the NFL, the HOFers say they'll boycott future ceremonies in Canton if they can't come to a fair agreement.

We talked to Dickerson ... and he told us exactly what the NFL legends are lookin' for -- and it's a lot of green.

"If it was up to me, I think every Hall of Famer would get about $300,000 a year. I think that would be a proper number."

Do the math ... 318 Hall of Famers multiplied by $300k ... that's more than $95 million a year.

Some players have died -- but are represented by their families (like in the case of Reggie White -- whose widow is part of the committee.)

FYI -- the NFL's 2017 revenue was reportedly in excess of $14 BILLION.

But, that ain't all E.D.'s after ... he eventually wants ALL former players -- not just the NFL legends -- to get a 6-figure salary and health care.

Travis Barker Sues Routine Pre-Tour MRI Left Me Unable to Drum

Published | Updated

Travis Barker is suing the people he says cost him his ability to play the drums, tour and live a normal life.

You'll remember ... Barker was involved in a nasty car accident back in July when his SUV collided with a school bus. He's also been sidelined from touring with Blink-182 after suffering nerve damage, damage to his veins and a staph infection.

We're told the injuries have been life-changing for Barker, and a lawsuit has become necessary.

In the lawsuit -- obtained by TMZ -- Barker claims in June he went to The Medical Imaging Center in Santa Monica to receive an MRI as part of his routine checkup for his upcoming tour. Barker was to be sedated before the procedure, but technicians were unable to find a vein, sticking him at least 40x times in the process with a dirty needle and giving him staph. He's suing the medical office.

As for the bus crash ... the driver of the school bus made an illegal left turn and caused the collision. He's suing the driver of the bus and the bus company for the crash.

Travis doesn't specify how much he's asking for in damages, but you can bet it'll be a lot considering he's been unable to drum and has been forced to turn down numerous offers.

Travis' 14-year-old son Landon is also a part of the lawsuit.

Burt Reynolds' Will Niece to Handle Estate ... Not His Son

Published | Updated

Burt Reynolds excluded his only son from his will, but not because he wanted to disinherit him.

Burt's will specifically says 30-year-old Quinton Reynolds is intentionally omitted from the will. However, the doc goes on to say that Burt created a trust years ago for Quinton's benefit and the money from the trust will continue to go to Quinton. This is typically done to avoid estate taxes.

It appears all of Burt's assets are in the trust, so the will is effectively a hollow document, providing that all assets not accounted for in the trust will funnel to it.

The will also provides the trustee is his niece, Nancy Lee Brown Hess. Again interesting ... Burt didn't select Quinton to handle the trust, although that might have been a conflict of interest since Quinton is a beneficiary of the trust.

As we reported ... Burt died of a heart attack earlier this month. He died at a hospital in Florida after going into cardiac arrest. His family was by his side when he passed.

Burt had heart problems for years. You'll recall he underwent major heart surgery in February 2010. As we first reported ... Burt lived out his final years at his longtime Florida estate thanks to a loving landlord who helped him out of a financial crisis.
