Tampa Bay Rays Prospect Suffered Facial Fractures ... After Foul Ball Hit Him

Published
UPDATE

12:42 PM PT -- 3/3 Rays manager Kevin Cash just updated reporters Tuesday on Whitley's status, and it's not good for the outfielder ...

UPDATE

"Multiple facial fractures," Cash said.

UPDATE

The manager added there's no timetable to return for Whitley, who will see additional specialists on how to proceed with the injury.

Garrett Whitley -- a former MLB first-round pick and current Rays farmhand-- was forced to go to the hospital Monday after he was terrifyingly struck in the face by a foul ball.

During the Tampa Bay Rays vs. Baltimore Orioles spring training game ... O's third baseman Renato Nunez uncorked a foul ball that beelined straight at Whitley.

The Tampa Bay outfielder -- who was at one time considered one of the game's best prospects -- was unable to move out of the way ... and took the ball right near his eye.

You can see in video of the at-bat ... 22-year-old Whitley immediately crumpled and required medical attention.

After the game, Rays manager said Whitley was diagnosed with a facial injury ... and was forced to go to the hospital to undergo further testing.

"[During initial tests] his eyes were moving fine," Cash told reporters. "He stayed coherent the whole time. That was pretty scary."

Whitley was drafted with the No. 13 overall pick by the Rays in 2015 ... but he's struggled to live up to expectations, batting just .236 in his minor league career.

Longtime jockey Richard Gamez has died after he suffered devastating injuries in a fall from his horse during a race Sunday at a famous Arizona track.

The 66-year-old was reportedly in the lead at Rillito Park Racetrack in the Tucson area when his horse suddenly bucked him from his saddle.

Gamez hit the ground ... and after he was trampled by another horse -- he was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries.

On Monday, track officials announced Gamez had died ... and in an interview with the Arizona Daily Star, a track spokesperson said the injuries were catastrophic.

"The accident was such that it didn’t really have anything to do with his age," Rillito Park Foundation president Jaye Wells said. "I'm no medical expert, but we believe the brain injury was such that he wouldn't have survived if he'd been 20."

Gamez's horse was reportedly not injured in the accident.

Gamez had been racing and raising horses for decades ... reportedly running in hundreds of events and winning more than $1 MILLION in prize money.

"He was a good guy. A hell of a guy. He loved horses," his friend, Hector Pinedo, told the Arizona Daily Star. "He loved the sport of kings, and he died doing what he did best."

Race officials say there will be some sort of event honoring Gamez at the track later this weekend.

'90 Day Fiance' star Alex Brovarnik leaped into action and became a real-life superhero while vacationing with his wife, Loren, in the Bahamas ... saving a man from drowning.

The former reality TV star -- whose journey from Israel to the States was documented during season 3 of the show -- was out in Nassau over the weekend when he spotted a clearly intoxicated young man make his way out to the water and begin to go under.

What happened next was nothing short of incredible ... he literally pulled the guy's limp body back to shore and began trying to help him regain consciousness as a crowd formed. In video of the heroic moment, you can hear the cameraman cheer him on. Rightly so!

Loren wrote of the situation, "My husband was watching a guy who was beyond intoxicated, who was with his 'friends' who just stood there and watched! The man went into the water and about drowned!"

She continued, "We are meant to be in a place in time for a reason! Alex and his friend Sean were meant to be at this beach, at this exact time because if not, who knows what could have happened!" Sounds like the dude eventually came to -- Loren says his life was saved.

Loren and Alex are one of the few success stories from the show. They're married, obviously, and are currently expecting their first child together. Alex also finally got his citizenship all these years later.

Jussie Smollett 'Attacker' Abel Mows Down Another Opponent ... Scores First-Round KO!!!

Published

Jussie Smollett's alleged attacker may not have done much damage to the actor on the streets of Chicago, but he keeps racking up knockouts in the ring.

Abel Osundairo was a featured fighter in the 11th Annual Fights Amateur Boxing Tournament at the Belvedere Events Center in Elk Grove Village, Illinois. The National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame was behind the event.

Dude strolled into the ring and it was no contest ... 'cause after feeling out his opponent in the first 18 seconds, Abel unleashed his vicious jab and strong left hook to smother his opponent. Watch ... with less than a minute and a half left into the round, Abel traps him on the ropes and knocks him out with a powerful right hook. And just like that, it was over.

After the match ... Abel -- with his brother, Ola, in tow as a guest -- were all smiles posing for pics with boxing Hall of Famers Larry "The Easton Assassin" Holmes and Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini.

BTW ... Abel's no stranger to knocking out opponents in the first round. He built a solid boxing reputation doing just that when he entered -- AND WON -- the prestigious Chicago Golden Gloves Tournament.

Boxing ... a nice real-life distraction from, well you know.

Yankees' Domingo German Involved In Car Crash In D.R. ... Says Aaron Boone

Published

Suspended Yankees star pitcher Domingo German was involved in a car crash in the Dominican Republic on Thursday ... NY manager Aaron Boone confirmed.

The right-hander was NOT, however, injured ... Boone says.

"Germán is fine," the Yanks head man told reporters at NY's spring camp. "He was in the car, in the back seat on the driver's side. He's been to the complex in the D.R., he's been checked over, and he's fine.”

German has been training in the DR away from his Yanks teammates in Florida, because he's still in the middle of an 81-game suspension he was hit with for violating the MLB's domestic violence policy last year.

It's unclear if others were injured in the accident -- Yankees officials have still not released a formal statement on the matter.

German was a STUD for the Yanks in 2019 before his ban, going 18-4 with a 4.03 ERA. He's eligible to return to the team's roster in June.

Tim Tebow Comically Bungles Last Out Of Game Tripped Over Own Laces!!!

Published

Tim Tebow ... NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Heisman Trophy winner turned Mets farmhand had a chance to be a hero in NY's spring training game Friday ... but instead, he tripped over his own shoes!!

The sad scene all went down in the Mets-Cardinals exhibition game ... where Tebow's squad was up 3-2 in the top of the ninth inning.

With two outs left in the game, Tim could've closed everything down by catching a lazy pop fly to left field -- but he fell to the ground before he could make the grab!!

The vid is pretty depressing ... Tim takes a solid route to the ball, camps underneath it, but then gets his feet tangled in his shoelaces and goes crashing to the grass.

SO CLOSE!!!

The ball landed just a few feet from him ... allowing the game-tying runner to advance to second base.

To make matters worse, Tebow -- the No. 9 hitter for the day -- was 0-for-2 on the afternoon with 2 strikeouts. YIKES!!!

Fortunately for the ex-NFL QB, the Mets were able to get the next batter to fly out to right to end the game ... but social media is already ROASTING poor Timmy for the effort!!

Of course, it hasn't been all bad news bears for Tebow this spring ... he just hit his first home run of camp earlier this week, but clearly, this ain't going to help make the Mets' opening day roster.

Maybe the XFL is still looking for a QB???

NFL Prospect Mitchell Wilcox Injured After Getting Hit In Face ... At Combine Workout

Published
UPDATE

2:16 PM PT -- 2/28 -- Wilcox was actually injured by the ball ... popping a blood vessel in his left eye, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports.

UPDATE

Wilcox is expected to recover and be ready for more drills at USF's Pro Day on March 30.

OUUUUUUUUUUUUUCHHHHH!!!

NFL tight end prospect Mitchell Wilcox just took a ball straight to the face in his combine workout ... and it looked like it hurt like HELL!!!

The former USF standout was going through the famous gauntlet drill Thursday ... when for some reason, he didn't put his hands up before the third pass was thrown.

You can see the clip ... the fastball hits him right in the dome -- and it's pretty clear the shot didn't feel great.

To Wilcox's credit, he was able to finish the drill and is still out there chugging along -- although the damage to his face AND his NFL future might already be done.

Aside from getting hit in the noggin in front of a bunch of scouts ... Wilcox ran a slow 4.88 40-yard dash time and stumbled through other parts of his workout as well.

It ain't exactly a great look for the 23-year-old -- but there is hope ... remember the last dude who embarrassed himself in front of a national audience at the combine?

Yeah, Chris Jones is a Super Bowl champ now!!!

Published

Undefeated UFC rising star Movsar Evloev has officially pulled out of UFC 248 ... after the fighter says he was hit by a car while riding his motorcycle -- and the injuries are GROSS!!

The 26-year-old Russian was slated to fight Jamall Emmers at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on March 7 -- a big opportunity since that card is loaded with big names like Israel Adesanya, Yoel Romero, Weili Zhang, Joanna Jedrzejczyk and more.

Regarding the crash, the details are unclear -- no word on where it happened or if anyone was arrested. But, it's clear Evloev is lucky to be alive.

Evloev's management team posted a pic of his injuries showing pretty bad road rash all over his left side ... especially to his back, shoulder and arm.

Obviously, Evloev's injuries are too severe to compete in less than two weeks -- so he's off the card. Giga Chikadze will take Evloev's place in the fight against Emmers.

Evloev has flashed some serious potential since signing with the UFC -- winning his first 2 fights with the promotion over South Korean fighter Seung Woo Choi and Peru's Enrique Barzola.
