Chicago Protests Cops Dragged, Tossed by Protesters

DRAGGED THROUGH THE STREETS
Storyful

It's clear now that protesters are NOT afraid of physically clashing with police, and it's also clear ... cops don't always have the upper hand, like these two Chicago PD officers here.

Check out this chaotic scene that was captured and posted Saturday out in the Windy City, where a couple of cops got into it with a swarm of protesters that had gathered around them following some sort of physical altercation with at least one of them.

That led to pretty much everyone else standing by to get in on the fracas by yanking the two officers off and away from the guy they appeared to be detaining. Literally ... they full-on stripped them back, and then DRAGGED one of the cops for a good 7 or 8 feet.

BTW, the cop that got dragged appeared to be a woman. What's even crazier is that it was other protesters that jumped in to finally break it up and actually form a protective circle around the 2 policemen. Good thing they did too -- those folks looked ready to pounce.

Chicago's just one of the latest cities to undergo these violent clashes -- they're happening in just about every major city in the country right now ... and it ain't even fully dark yet.

George Floyd Alleged Murderer Chauvin on Suicide Watch ... Effectively, 15 Min. Checks

Derek Chauvin, accused murderer of George Floyd, has a camera focused on him round-the-clock, and cops check on his cell regularly -- all the hallmarks of a suicide watch.

A source at Ramsey County Jail in St. Paul, MN -- where Chauvin is detained -- tells TMZ, he was brought in late afternoon Friday, and didn't make eye contact with anyone upon his arrival ... before beginning the check-in process.

We're told Chauvin was put through an unclothed body search to look for any hidden contraband. Then, he put on a jail uniform and they led him off to a single cell in a special wing of the facility for high-profile cases.

For now, our source says Chauvin is in isolation and being watched constantly. There's a camera in his cell watching him 24/7, as well as guards monitoring the feed 24/7. On top of that, he's getting checked on in-person every 15 minutes.

While our source wouldn't use the term suicide watch to characterize Chauvin's circumstances -- other law enforcement sources tell us, yes, that's effectively what's happening at the jail.

That's not to say officers there believe Chauvin is suicidal, per se -- we're told the 15-minute checks are standard for that section of the jail ... but in the same breath, our sources say they want to make sure nothing happens to him while he's in custody.

Our source says Chauvin will be in his cell 23 hours a day -- with one hour of rec time in an enclosed area. He has access to books, pencils and paper -- not much else. He's also got a bed bolted to the floor with a pillow sewn to it.

We're told, as of Friday, the jail staff was unaware of any threats against Chauvin's life. He faces 3rd-degree murder and 2nd-degree manslaughter charges for kneeling on George's neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds.

A spokesperson for the Ramsey County Jail declined to comment.

George Floyd Killing No Charges for Cops Yet ... Feds, D.A. Ask for Patience & Calm

CIVIL INVESTIGATION
Fox 9 KMSP
UPDATE

3:35 PM PT -- Authorities are not yet ready to charge any of the officers involved in Floyd's death. The point of the news conference was to let the public know they're working on the case, and to plead for patience and an end to violent protests.

UPDATE

Erica MacDonald, the U.S. Attorney of the District of Minnesota, opened by saying a “robust and meticulous investigation” into the horrible incident and the actions of the police officers involved is underway. She says they are working around the clock to determine whether one or more of the cops committed a criminal civil rights violation.

UPDATE

MacDonald described Floyd’s death as a "disturbing loss of life," and says the case is a top priority for the Department of Justice, and President Trump and Attorney General William Barr are actively monitoring the situation.

UPDATE

She also said it “breaks my heart” to see what’s happening in Minneapolis — the riots, looting and violence — and pleaded with the public to remain calm ... and let them conduct their investigation. MacDonald and others encouraged peaceful protests.

UPDATE

Rainer Drolshagen, the FBI special agent in charge, also called for anyone who has information related to Floyd’s case to come forward, saying, “no tip is too small.”

UPDATE

Finally -- when asked how it's possible the police officer in the video seen pressing his knee on Floyd's neck hasn't been charged yet -- Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman said he will not be quick to rush to justice.

UPDATE

He stated there is certainly evidence that suggests a criminal charge could be coming, but also said, "There is other evidence that does not warrant a criminal charge." Freeman strongly implied he wants to get this right, and only bring charges when he knows they will stick.

UPDATE

1:29 PM PT -- Sources connected to George Floyd's family tell TMZ ... the FBI contacted the family ahead of the news conference and said "justice will be done." It sounds like they may announce charges.

The FBI and local prosecutors in Minneapolis are about to hold a news conference to announce developments -- and possible charges -- in the George Floyd killing.

We're told the announcements will be significant, and possibly accelerated by the unrest in the City following the shocking and unjustified death of Floyd.

In fact, ahead of the news conference, Hennepin County Sheriff's deputies were lined up outside the D.A.'s Office.

The 4 officers involved have been fired, but there are cries for them to be prosecuted for murder.

The City has been gripped by 2 straight nights of protests, fires, tear gas ... and showdowns with police in riot gear.

Floyd's brother and cousin, along with the family lawyer, Ben Crump, appeared on "TMZ Live" and said there can be no justice unless criminal charges are filed. Congresswoman Maxine Waters said it's particularly appalling because she feels the officer who had his knee on George's neck for more than 5 minutes seemed to be enjoying it.

Shameik Moore Sorry for Controversial George Floyd Rant ... Here's What I Meant

CLEARIN' THINGS UP

Shameik Moore is trying to clarify his controversial remarks about the George Floyd killing and police brutality ... after his rant sparked backlash and outrage.

The actor -- best known for his work as the voice of Miles Morales in "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" -- says he's sorry for offending folks Thursday in the black community with several heated tweets.

Shameik weighed in on the Floyd killing by saying the black community needs to learn how to deal with police better, and stop blaming everything on racism.

He also called out the community for black-on-black violence, suggesting that's the bigger problem African-Americans need to tackle.

Shameik didn't call for an end to police violence, instead asked if the black community could find ways to avoid being killed or hunted. Saying, he wants to see how they can help stop these recurring incidents.

He does say "power-hungry policemen" should be reprimanded and punished for their behavior and treatment of blacks, but adds folks have been hoping for better treatment since before he was born, and not much has changed.

Shameik says he gave his take on the situation after seeing a video of a young black man "barking" at a cop, and simply wanted to start a conversation on how to de-escalate interactions with police.

In the end, Shameik apologizes to anyone who was offended by his rant ... but his explanation for it is also not going over that well online.

Boxing Star Jermall Charlo Suspect In Assault Investigation ... Cops Say

Boxing star Jermall Charlo is a suspect in a police investigation of a brutal assault that allegedly took place over the weekend ... TMZ Sports has learned.

Cops in Fort Bend County, Texas tell us they responded to a Missouri City residence at around 10 PM on May 23 ... initially for a welfare check.

But, officers say when they arrived ... someone reported there was an aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury during a party at the residence -- and they launched an investigation.

Cops are mum on the details of the allegations -- we're working on it -- but they do say they have identified Charlo as a suspect in the case.

The 30-year-old WBC middleweight champ has NOT been arrested at this time.

Charlo is one of boxing's biggest suspertars ... he's 30-0 in his pro career with 22 knockouts.

We've reached out to Jermall and his camp for comment ... but so far, no word back yet.

Kim Kardashian Applauds Inmates for Prison Mixtape ... David Jassy's a Genius!!!

CHANGING LIVES THROUGH MUSIC

Kim Kardashian is applauding music producer and ex-inmate David Jassy on a groundbreaking achievement ... a mixtape written, recorded and produced in San Quentin State Prison.

The 17-track project, dubbed San Quentin Mixtape, Vol. 1., is dropping Friday, and Kim surprised David with this congratulatory message ... admiring his work, passion and dedication to his music-led prison initiative.

David, an award-winning producer who wrote and produced for Britney Spears, Sean Kingston, and Ashley Tisdale before being incarcerated, is the mixtape's brainchild ... he used a keyboard to makes beats in his San Quentin cell, and had other inmates rap about their stories.

Along the way, David's vision captured the hearts and minds of a host of celebs ... with Kim, J. Cole, MC Hammer and Common among the famous folks who visited San Quentin to see what Jassy was cooking up, and encourage the inmates to keep doing their thing.

David spent 11 years in San Quentin as part of his sentence for killing a man during an altercation, but while inside ... he worked with the prison to establish a music-focused initiative within the Youthful Offenders Program. He taught inmates how to write, produce and record their own music in a studio.

Jassy used his contacts in the music industry and other donors to support the program with enough donated audio equipment to build a full-scale production studio inside the prison's media lab.

The end result -- a project delving into the life experiences of 17 different inmates, exploring their struggles behind bars while encouraging the next generation to learn from their mistakes and forge a better path.

Kim says David and the 17 inmates featured on the mixtape should be very proud of themselves, and she can't wait for the world to hear their positive message -- the mixtape has no profanity.

David's sentence was commuted by California Governor Gavin Newsom in March, and while he's returned to his native Sweden to resume his career, Jassy is not turning his back on San Quentin ... he's still providing beats for the music program ... because mixtapes rarely end with Volume 1.

Justin Theroux My Angry Neighbor's at it Again ... I Heard Him Threaten to Break His Wife's Teeth!!!

UPDATE

8:33 AM PT -- 6/1 The Resnicows have responded to Theroux's allegations, and while both admit Norman verbally threatened his wife ... Mrs. Resnicow denies any physical abuse.

UPDATE

Norman says, "I deeply regret the words I used in the recording. There is no excuse or justification to verbally threaten violence again anyone ever, regardless of context or intent. I apologize to my wife, family, and friends for the pain I have caused."

UPDATE

Mrs. Resnicow says Norman "has never been physically aggressive." She adds ... "Our verbal dispute, which was recorded without our consent, had nothing to do with Justin Theroux or with the lawsuit he has filed against both of us. He is using the pain of public humiliation as a weapon to destroy us. I feel threatened by Justin, not my husband."

Justin Theroux's ongoing war with his neighbor is getting uglier ... because he claims the guy's been making threats of domestic abuse against his elderly wife.

The actor's filed legal docs -- obtained by TMZ -- seeking civil or criminal punishment for his NYC neighbor, Norman Resnicow, because he alleges Resnicow's rage-filled outbursts violate a restraining order put in place as part of their ongoing litigation.

THREATS OF VIOLENCE
Pryor Cashman LLP

Justin asserts Resnicow's prohibited from harassing or intimidating potential witnesses in the case, including other residents of the building ... which includes his 71-year-old wife.

Theroux claims he's heard Resnicow threatening her with violence multiple times since Governor Cuomo issued a stay-at-home order in March. He says 2 days after the order ... Resnicow locked his wife out of their home because he was mad she wasn't wearing a mask, and angrily screamed at her to leave.

Justin recorded the incident, as well as the second incident later that night, when he says he heard Resnicow "erupting in rage" at his wife back at their home. Resnicow's heard calling her a "stupid woman" and "f***ing moron" on the recordings ... and Justin says he feared for her safety and police were called.

About a month later on April 30, there was another alleged incident which prompted Theroux to call the cops ... but he says Resnicow pretended to not be home when they arrived.

Then, on the evening of May 3, Justin claims he heard a loud verbal attack by Resnicow on his wife and began recording. According to the audio, Resnicow's angry that his wife wants to go out, and says to her ... "No you don’t, because I’ll break your teeth. No, you sit down in your f***ing seat. Sit down in your fucking seat and watch the show."

Resnicow accuses her of "going out deaf" because she listens to podcasts, and adds ... "Sit down and shut up. You’re not going anywhere. You’re not going anywhere. You’re not—you’re gonna watch. Wanna get it? You want broken teeth? I’ll break your f***ing teeth."

Theroux says he called 911 again and police arrived, but he does not know the outcome of their encounter with the Resnicows.

Justin claims other residents in the building have filed affidavits saying these incidents can be traumatic, and Justin says the outbursts caused him "anxiety that continues long after the incidents themselves have ended."

He's asking the court to hold Resnicow in contempt and potentially impose a fine or imprisonment on him. As we've reported ... the nasty fight between the 2 neighbors has gone on for 3 years -- but this is another level.

George Floyd Family Demands Arrest of Officers ... Attorney Calls for State of Emergency

ALL ARE ACCOUNTABLE
TMZ.com

George Floyd's family wants the 4 officers involved in his death arrested, charged and tried for murder -- as their attorney says America needs a state of emergency ... to protect black people.

George's brother, Philonise Floyd, and cousin, Tera Brown, spoke with us Wednesday on "TMZ Live" and reacted to the surveillance video showing the initial moment George was put in handcuffs.

They were, understandably, distraught over what we've all seen in the footage -- George peacefully responding as an officer arrested him ... never physically resisting arrest.

Philonise told us his brother was beloved by everyone who knew him, and said he wasn't shocked to see George was NOT resisting ... as the Minneapolis police first suggested in a statement about the incident.

MOMENTS BEFORE HIS DEATH
Dragon Wok

His brother and cousin got emotional explaining what it was like watching the original video showing George slowly get killed on camera. When we asked what Philonise and Tera would like to see happen now, they didn't hesitate -- both want all the officers there on the scene, especially the one kneeling on George, to be arrested for murder.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey echoed the family's words during a news conference Wednesday afternoon, where he called for the Hennepin County District Attorney to charge the officer whose knee cut off George's airway.

Frey said the Floyd family "deserves justice."

A STATE OF EMERGENCY
TMZ.com

We also spoke to the family's attorney, Ben Crump -- and he told us he is now demanding an executive order be issued announcing a state of emergency for protection of all African-Americans.

It might sound like a big ask, but watch -- Crump is deadly serious about his plea, and says in light of George's case, Ahmaud Arbery's and so many others ... it's very necessary.

George Floyd Death Family's Lawyer Calls it 'Horrific Killing' ... 'It's Open Season on Black People'

DEMANDING ACCOUNTABILITY
TMZ.com

The killing of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer is the latest example of a shockingly disturbing reality in America ... leading many to conclude it's "open season on black people" ... this according to the lawyer representing George's family.

Attorney Ben Crump joined "TMZ Live" Tuesday to express the shock, outrage and sadness so many are feeling following Monday night's brutal incident ... in which a cop, who was responding to a forgery call, choked off George's air supply until he died.

5/25/20
EXCESSIVE FORCE
Facebook/ Darnella Frazier

Crump says George's family is having a terrible time comprehending what's captured on video -- the cop kept his knee on Floyd's neck for 8 MINUTES, despite his pleas that he couldn't breathe ... and everyone's in disbelief at what Ben calls a lack of humanity.

As we reported ... the Police Dept. released a statement saying no weapons were used during the incident, but as Crump points out -- that statement doesn't address the officer's brutality, and there's no explanation or justification for what happened anyway. The P.D.'s initial statement seemed to justify the incident, and it appears it was released before the video surfaced.

A COMPLETE FAILURE

The Mayor of Minneapolis has expressed outrage, saying, "When you hear someone calling for help, you're supposed to help. This officer failed in the most basic, human sense."

Of course, the cop responsible for the knee to the neck had a partner during the arrest, and Crump believes that officer's actions make him complicit in the killing. As Crump says ... this cop also ignored Floyd's cries and protests from people watching, and didn't do a thing to help.

Minneapolis PD Chief Medaria Arradondo seems to have reached a similar conclusion -- on Tuesday afternoon he announced the firing of 4 officers involved in the incident. The officers names have not been released yet.

Crump feels it's long overdue for police officers to be held accountable for their actions -- or inaction -- like this ... no more benefit of the doubt or obligatory moral high ground given. Listen to how Ben explains it, though ... he makes a very good point.

Finally, this case is being compared to the death of Eric Garner in 2014 because of the obvious similarities, and Crump says he's going to try to get Eric's family in touch with Floyd's ... a request made by Eric's mother.

Along with representing Floyd's family, Crump is the lawyer for Ahmaud Arbery's family and he's a renowned civil rights attorney, who also worked with Trayvon Martin's family in the past.

Coronavirus Asian Couple Attacked by Xenophobe COVID-19's 'All Your Fault'

An Asian man was attacked in Seattle by a guy who slapped, shoved and spit on him ... and it was all out of revenge over the coronavirus, and now cops are on the hunt.

As awful as it is, it's actually even worse because cops say the culprit has been threatening Asian residents all over the City.

The man allegedly told the Asian couple "it's all your fault" ... clearly referring to the coronavirus pandemic and the fact it originated in China and the government was hyper-secretive.
Cops say this is the same guy who was harassing Asians at Golden Gardens Park.

In one attack, police say the man approached an Asian woman in her car, knocked on her window, asking, "Where are you from? Where is your ID?" Cops say the man was also taking pictures of the victim's car and yelling, "Chinese disease ... they bring it here!"

Donald Trump has been on a tear against China, accusing the government of intentionally keeping the pandemic in that country secret and not giving the rest of the world an adequate heads up. Some critics say Trump has been so fervent against China, it has emboldened some people to lash out at Asians in America.

Corey La Barrie Parents Sue Daniel Silva ... Claim Wrongful Death

UPDATE

11:11 AM PT -- 5/24 -- A source close to Daniel tells TMZ, Daniel did not have any drugs in his system at the time of the crash and he has never had a DUI. He’s never even had a speeding ticket since living in L.A.

Corey La Barrie's parents claim "Ink Master" star Daniel Silva is responsible for the wrongful death of their son -- and they want him to pay up in court.

The YouTuber's parents, Simon La Barrie and Lissa Burton, filed suit against the tattoo artist ... alleging he and his company, Daniel Silva Tattoos, were negligent in the hours and moments leading up to Corey's untimely demise earlier this month, on his birthday no less.

In the docs, obtained by TMZ, Corey's parents allege that Daniel was driving at an unsafe and unreasonable speed when he was in the car with Corey, which they say means he was operating the vehicle without due care and in violation of California law.

Not only that, but they go on to allege he was under the influence at the time of the accident -- which ultimately killed Corey -- and they even go so far as to say that his own company provided the intoxicants, which the La Barries say was alcohol and/or other unknown substances. Then the nail in the coffin ... they say Daniel had been popped before for driving under the influence, so he should've known the dangers of doing so.

As we reported ... Daniel has been charged with murder in connection to Corey's death. Now, he's got a civil suit to deal with too.

Corey's parents say that, with the loss of their son, they're going to be missing out on a whole lot of emotional comfort he did and would've provided them for years to come -- not to mention the burial expenses they've incurred and other costs.

For that, they want a judge to grant them damages. We've reached out to Daniel's attorney for comment ... so far, no word back.

San Leandro Woman Posts Racist, Xenophobic Letter ... On Homes of POC

A Bay Area woman was allegedly going around and posting xenophobic letters on the homes of people of color, demanding they leave the U.S. ... and she was caught on camera doing the heinous deed.

Photos of the lady -- who has yet to be identified -- circulated Saturday ... with a couple pics of her pinning a hand-written note to the front of door of someone's home in San Leandro. Apparently, she was going around Friday doing this in a residential neighborhood.

A FB user claiming to have been a victim of the bigotry wrote, "This happened today, a white woman wearing a USA beanie targeted People of color homes with this letter at their front doors. This occurred in a quiet and well diverse middle-class community in San Leandro. My family’s house was also targeted. We were able to capture all this on camera."

She added, "There is no room for this hateful and despicable behavior in this society."

Now, the contents of the letter are disturbing. It starts out by quoting America's preamble, and then go on to demand that people who weren't born here return to their countries of origin -- and in some of the letters found around the area ... she gave 'em a deadline.

The worst part of the letter reads, "If you are a woman or man who was born in another country, return, go back to your land immediately. Fast, with urgency." Later it says, "We the People: Do ordain to you to leave this house. One American, white, brave, that serves the nation of USA is going to live here."

The good news here is that the former Mayor of San Leandro, Stephen Cassidy, said the woman was already picked up by cops, and that statement by the police department is forthcoming. He'd earlier said he would tell officials to charge her with a hate crime.

Story developing ...

Lori Loughlin, Mossimo Giannulli Cop Plea Deals ... In College Bribery Scandal

Lori Loughlin and her husband, Mossimo Giannulli, have thrown in the towel in their college admissions case ... agreeing to plead guilty, and maybe the reason lies in the sentences.

Lori and Mossimo have each agreed to plead guilty to one conspiracy to commit wire and mail fraud. Mossimo will also plead guilty to honest services wire and mail fraud.

Now the sentences ... Lori has agreed to 2 months in prison and a $150,000 fine and 2 years probation. She also has to perform 250 hours of community service.

Mossimo will serve 5 months in prison with a $250,000 fine and 250 hours of community service.

It's a Titanic-like sea change for the couple ... they had vowed to fight the charges. As for why the change of heart ... they were facing multiple felonies -- the feds kept adding charges the longer they resisted -- and if convicted on all counts could have served more than 40 years each behind bars.

You'll recall ... Lori and her husband are accused of paying $500,000 in bribes to get their daughters into USC, faking a photo that made it look like the girls were college-caliber rowers.

Lori's sentence is harsher than fellow actor Felicity Huffman, who was sentenced to 14 days.

Now here's something interesting ... given that they've already agreed to a sentence, they could ask the judge for house arrest because of coronavirus issues in prison. Stay tuned.

NFL Player Suing United Airlines ... You Let Me Get Sexually Assaulted On Plane!!!!

UPDATE

10:32 AM PT -- TMZ Sports has obtained a statement from United ... which says "The safety and well-being of our customers is always our top priority."

UPDATE

"In this instance, the customer involved was moved to a different seat. Because litigation is now pending, we’re unable to provide further comment."

An anonymous NFL player says he was sexually assaulted on a United Airlines plane and claims flight attendants didn't do much to stop it -- and now, he's suing.

The player -- using the alias "John Doe 1" in the new lawsuit obtained by TMZ Sports -- says on Feb. 10, 2020 ... a woman "sexually harassed, assaulted, abused, and violated" him during a flight.

The unidentified footballer says the trip -- a cross-country, red-eye ride from LAX to New Jersey -- was a complete nightmare ... and it was all made worse by United staffers.

In the suit, the man says he took his place in a middle seat ... and when a woman sat in the window seat next to him -- he claims he was immediately harassed over the safety mask he was wearing.

The football player says he told her it was because of the growing coronavirus pandemic ... but claims the woman hit and elbowed him and demanded he move seats nonetheless.

The man says he and his friend, identified as "John Doe 2" in the suit, observed the woman taking pills -- and believed her to be under the influence.

In the suit, the NFL player claims Doe 2 got up to tell flight attendants about the woman harassing Doe 1 ... but says they did nothing about it.

The NFL player claims the woman then sexually assaulted him ... groping and massaging his knees and thighs. He claims Doe 2 got up again to inform flight attendants, but says they still did nothing.

In the suit, the NFLer claims the woman began to "intensify" her sexual assault, "grabbing and groping his quads and then stroking her hand across his lap towards the inside of his leg near his genitals."

He claims he immediately got up and pleaded with a flight attendant to get the woman to stop ... but he says the United employee did nothing more than issue a verbal warning to the woman.

The NFL player then says the woman grabbed his penis and ripped off his face mask -- causing him to jump away and run toward flight attendants.

While he was up, Doe 2 says the woman slid over into the middle seat and began sexually assaulting him as well.

Finally, the NFL player claims United flight attendants came over and moved the woman to another row without passengers.

The NFL player says both he and Doe 2 were given $150 vouchers for their troubles ... but they're now suing and seeking damages for negligence, infliction of emotional distress, and more.

We reached out to the player's attorney in the case -- who would not confirm the NFLer's identity.

The attorney, though, did issue a statement, saying, "Those who report assaults should not be ignored, but believed, their claims investigated and appropriate action taken where warranted."

We reached out to United for comment ... but so far, no word back yet.

SHOTS FIRED

The punishment doesn't fit the crime. That's what Sean Reed's family's saying about the cop who got suspended for his "closed casket" joke ... saying he deserved to be fired.

You'll recall the Indianapolis detective got suspended and reassigned after he was heard saying, "I think it's going to be a closed casket, homie" moments after Reed was fatally shot during an incident Reed streamed live on Facebook.

BAD TASTE

Well, the Reed family's furious over what they essentially say is a slap on the wrist. Sean's uncle, Tyrell Reed, tells TMZ ... he doesn't think the cop received a harsh enough punishment. In fact, Tyrell tells us, "I feel like [the detective] shouldn't be on the force or allowed to be a police officer."

What's more ... Tyrell says the detective's true colors came out with his distasteful joke, because he had no clue Reed's camera was still streaming live. Tyrell adds, "He thought he was doing things in the dark. Now, those words leave a mark on our family forever. I probably don't think his fellow officers appreciated the comment either."

I WANT JUSTICE
TMZ.com

Tyrell says the Reeds have been shaken to their core with the crack made by the detective, whose identity has not been disclosed because of safety concerns. For what it's worth ... Tyrell says things have slowly gotten better over the last few days, thanks to the overwhelming support the family's been receiving from friends and others in the community.

As we first reported ... Tyrell told us it's a terrible enough situation to have one of your family members shot and killed with a camera filming it ... even worse when a cop makes a quip that will be seared into their memories forever.
