'Captain America' Actress Not Competent to Stand Trial ... in Mother's Slaying Case

Published | Updated

The 'Captain America' actress who told cops she killed her mother in self-defense just days before Christmas has been found incompetent to stand trial ... TMZ has learned.

According to court records ... Mollie Fitzgerald was found to lack competency to stand trial in late September. Her attorney, Jason Billam, tells TMZ ... she'll be returned to a state mental hospital for treatment.

We're told things are on hold for now, and her mental state will be reviewed every 90 days to see if she can regain competency to stand trial.

Billam tells us 3 mental health doctors stated their case and the court was satisfied with their findings. He said 2 of the 3 doctors concluded Mollie didn't have the ability to assist her attorney in providing a defense and she didn't understand what's happening to her.

That said ... Billam did say Mollie understands she's been charged with the murder of her mother ... and she also understands the roles her attorney, prosecutors and the judge play but gets confused about how the overall judicial process works.

As we reported ... Mollie -- who appeared in "Captain America: The First Avenger" -- has been charged with the murder of her mother. Mollie claimed self-defense but authorities say she was the aggressor ... allegedly stabbing her mother 4 times in the back.

Matthew McConaughey Still 'Measuring' TX Gov Run But NYT Interview Suggests ... Eh, Nah

Published | Updated
1009-McConaughey-audio-02
maybe yes, maybe no ...

Matthew McConaughey says he's still not sure if he'll run for Governor of Texas -- heavily suggesting it's NOT in the cards for him, considering how little leg work he's done thus far.

The actor did a wide-ranging interview with the NYT's Kara Swisher for a recent episode of her 'Sway' podcast ... and it's pretty astounding how little Matt knows about current issues, and how unwilling he seems to be in committing to one side of the aisle or another ... or even expressing a clear cut, definitive view of what he considers right or wrong.

The one thing he did clarify -- after constant (and much-needed) follow-up questions from Swisher on where he landed/what he's going to do -- is that he's woefully unprepared for a serious gov run in the Lone Star State ... as he's only in the consulting phase right now.

Matt says he hasn't started forming committees, conducting polls or much of anything else yet that comes with getting a legit campaign started and rolling. Apparently, he's still just talking to certain people about the idea of running ... and the election is just a year away.

MMC also says this about the proposition ... "Who am I going to be? No, who -- who am I going to be? Where can I be most useful? Is politics an embassy for me to be of the most use to myself, to my family, to the most amount of people in my life moving forward?' He adds, "I could arguably have more influence as an informal leader than a formal leader."

He also called the current American political system (2 parties, seemingly extreme views on both sides) "broken" ... implying he was more of a centrist than anything, also saying in philosopher fashion that he continues to "measure" what avenue would be best for him.

What that measurement entails, exactly, is anyone's guess ... but Matt says he's "studying" the issue. Speaking of issues, he actually did end up weighing in on some concrete ones, after incessant badgering (and explaining of said issues) from Swisher. On mask mandates in TX ... for. On voter rights protections ... for. On the abortion bill ... against.

You can listen to the full podcast to hear how he explains his rationale for each -- some explanations of which are a bit of a doozy, and sorta hard to unpack. But, based on how he answers, McConaughey appears to lean center-left ... more than anything.

1119-Matthew-McConaughey-and-Hugh-hewitt-audio-2 11/19/20
I MIGHT, I MIGHT, I MIGHT ...

At one point, Swisher asks what he made of Beto O'Rourke saying Matt was an enigma, and hadn't made a lot of his positions clear -- something he thinks is essential to being a real contender in modern-day U.S. politics. Swisher said she perceived that as "shade."

Not so with Matt, who replied that he thought Beto was a good dude, and had his heart in the right place. Still ... many believe MMC should make up his mind one way or another, because the longer he waffles, the more Texans will be confused on who their options are as polling continues to show ... McConaughey is the odds-on fave to take on Greg Abbot.

Machine Gun Kelly No Charges in Alleged Battery ... Zero Proof of Parking Lot Attack

Published

Machine Gun Kelly's going to be more than okay ... he'll be ecstatic after learning he will NOT be prosecuted for allegedly beating up a parking lot attendant.

TMZ has learned the L.A. City Attorney's Office is rejecting the case ... declining to charge MGK because there was no reasonable likelihood of conviction. Translation: they just don't have enough evidence.

As we first reported, the parking lot attendant accused the musician/actor of battery -- claiming MGK pushed him in the chest near an L.A. location where he and his good pal, Mod Sun, were shooting their movie, "Good Mourning with a U."

Sources, however, told us the parking lot attendant's battery claims were completely false. And, clearly prosecutors didn't think they could prove his claim.

Even if he's off the hook criminally, he's still gotta deal with a lawsuit. The parking lot attendant, John Martin Tilli, filed the suit, alleging MGK and his production crew and staff became aggressive and surrounded him ... before MGK pushed him from the front, while the crew pushed from behind.

Tilli's suing for assault, battery, negligence and elder abuse -- a very odd claim for a guy who's 49-years-old. Sources close to MGK told us he yelled at Tilli, because he was interrupting filming, but he never made contact with him.

Renée Zellweger Not Moving in with Ant Anstead ... Despite Listing Her Home

Published | Updated

Renée Zellweger isn't ready to take one giant leap with her boyfriend -- despite putting her own home on the market, and the fact they're going strong ... she won't be moving in with Ant Anstead. Not yet.

Here's the deal, Renée recently listed her Los Angeles home for $6 million ... while Ant bought a home in Orange County back in May. You see how the planets were all lining up, right?

Fans of both speculated the couple was gearing up for that next big step in their relationship.

There was another sign back in July ... when Renée was moving some items into his house, but looks like that was just a weekend stay. TMZ has learned Ant and Renée have no immediate plans to live under the same roof full time.

Before the speculation begins they're on the outs, we should add ... we're also told their relationship is sailing along smoothly.

Ant quietly visited Renée last weekend in New Orleans, where she's filming a new movie, and we're told the lovebirds did lots of sightseeing in and around the Big Easy.

TMZ broke the story ... Renée and Ant started dating in June after his divorce from Christina Haack became official, meeting when they filmed an episode of his new Discovery+ show "Celebrity IOU: Joyride."

Seems they both agree ... 4 months of dating is too soon for his and hers bath towels.

Timberlake & Biel Shedding L.A. Mansion ... Asking $35 Million!!!

Published

Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel want to say bye, bye, bye to a significant piece of their L.A. life -- the couple's trying to offload their pad there ... and for quite a bundle, no less.

JT & JB have just listed their Hollywood Hills villa for a whopping $35 million -- which has served as Justin's L.A. headquarters since the dude first bought the estate waaaay back in 2002 (N'SYNC's heyday) for a mere $8.3 mil. Damn you, inflation!!!

Anyway, it proved to be a fantastic investment for him ... because since then, he met Jess, had a family -- and seriously spruced up the place with some major renovations over the years, including adding a monster pool in the backyard ... plus other bells and whistles.

The price tag -- especially with the market being what it is today -- is warranted, considering what's inside and out. First off, the property sits on a 10-acre lot, with 7-bedrooms and 13-bathrooms ... so anyone can take a poop at any time, without a worry in the world. 💩

There are other amenities too ... a private screening room, a personal gym, a tennis court (with lights), a gourmet kitchen, and a freaking guest house to boot. It's the epitome of Tinseltown luxury. Speaking of that ... it used to belong to none other than Errol Flynn!

If Justin gets anywhere near his asking price here ... he'll have cleared well over $20 million in profit -- which is freakin' awesome (for him and his fam).

The Timberlakes own property all over the country -- including a penthouse in Tribeca, where they're often spotted out and about. They also have houses in Tennessee and Montana.

'15 Minutes of Shame' Documentary From Essential Employee to Pariah ... Canceled for Fidgeting with My Fingers!!!

A LIFE-CHANGING MISUNDERSTANDING

'15 Minutes of Shame' documentary subject Emmanuel Cafferty says he was canceled after fidgeting with his fingers got misinterpreted as him throwing up the "white power" hand gesture ... and he says his life's been derailed ever since.

Cafferty joined "TMZ Live" Tuesday ... 16 months after he was unceremoniously axed from his dream job at the San Diego Gas & Electric company, mere hours after someone took a picture of him while his arm was hanging out the window of his company truck.

The picture, Cafferty says, caught him cracking his knuckles one by one and fidgeting with them -- but the person who took the picture posted it, accusing Cafferty of making the "OK" sign that's been adopted by white supremacists.

The picture was also taken less than 2 miles from a Black Lives Matter protest, and just days after George Floyd was killed.

Cafferty, who is Mexican-American, says he was swiftly suspended without pay before ultimately getting fired. He says he's furious this all happened even after the person who originally posted the photo deleted his account along with the picture, and later admitted he might have misinterpreted the gesture.

The ordeal Cafferty, and many other people, have gone through is the subject of the new HBO Max documentary produced by Monica Lewinsky. It's an in-depth look at what she calls the public shaming epidemic ... aka cancel culture.

As for Cafferty, he's left to swallow a very tough pill -- going from essential employee during a pandemic to a total social outcast, simply because he was fidgeting with his fingers.

Sarah Silverman End 'Jewface' in Hollywood ... Representation Matters

Published | Updated

it's always gentiles ...

Sarah Silverman is tired of non-Jews playing Jews on camera -- be it on TV or in film -- and says amid all the cries for representation in casting ... the Jewish people are left out, and the anti-Semitism points directly at Hollywood.

The comedian usually jokes around, but there's no laughing matter about this ... according to her. Sarah, who's Jewish, says Hollywood has long been in the practice of putting gentiles (non-Jewish people) into roles for Jewish folks -- especially those whose "Jewishness" are a big part of their identity.

Take Joan Rivers, for example, whom Sarah notes is set to be portrayed by Catholic-raised Kathryn Hahn in an upcoming limited series. There are way more instances of this, though.

SS points to Rachel Brosnahan playing Mrs. Maisel (who's Jewish), Tracey Ullman as Betty Friedan, Felicity Jones as Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Margo Martindale as Bella Abzug.

Along with a lot of these portrayals, Sarah says anti-Semitic tropes and stereotypes are often played up as well on camera ... including what she describes as prosthetics to make someone's nose bigger, a heavy New York accent with Yiddish undertones and beyond.

Sarah says this perpetuates anti-Semitic sentiments ... including the age-old claim that Jews "run" Hollywood, that they're rich, etc. Bottom line -- Sarah says in a time when everyone is clamoring for accurate portrayals in actors, she says Jews should be included in the convo.

Clint Eastwood Awarded $6.1 Mil ... in Lawsuit Against CBD Retailers

Published

Clint Eastwood could see a LOT of green soon ... he's just been awarded nearly $6.1 million in his lawsuit against CBD retailers.

The legendary actor -- and the company Eastwood runs that owns rights to his likeness, Garrapata -- just scored a $6.1 million default judgment after the companies he sued failed to respond to his lawsuit.

You'll recall, Eastwood and Garrapata argued a Lithuanian CBD company falsely made it look like he endorsed their products and illegally tried to profit off his name, likeness, and goodwill. In addition to the damages, the CBD retailers were also permanently blocked from using Clint's name and likeness moving forward.

As we reported ... Clint sued in July 2020 after claiming several CBD retailers pimped their products by using fake interviews with him where he gushes over the weed merch.

The lawsuit claimed the CBD company made it look like Clint endorsed the CBD products on the "Today" show. The company took a photo of an actual interview Clint did on the show and flashed up words that appeared to be an endorsement.

Clint made it crystal clear in his pair of lawsuits -- he's never sat down with any of these companies and, under no circumstances, endorsed their products.

He also accused the companies of defaming him with their lies to lure customers into thinking he was in bed with the CBD products. Although the judge did say the ads were not defamatory on their face, the court found that Eastwood and Garrapata did enough to prove their case that the CBD company misappropriated his good name to sell the products.

'Edward Scissorhands' Film Home Turned Into Museum ... Welcome to 'Scissorland!!!'

Published

The "Edward Scissorhands" superfans who bought the Boggs house featured in the movie have taken their fandom to new heights ... turning the home into a museum.

Joey Klops tells TMZ ... since he and his wife bought the property a year ago, it's been transformed into even more of an homage to Tim Burton's 1990 cult classic starring Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder.

We're told they've dubbed their suburban Tampa home "Scissorland," and it's now full of relics from the flick ... thanks to donations from neighbors who were around while the movie was being shot 3 decades ago and other 'Edward' diehards.

Joey says one neighbor gave them a license plate that residents were required to have on their car to get into the neighborhood while the movie was in production.

He's also gotten his hands on an original pair of scissors Depp used as Edward to trim the dinosaur bush in the movie ... along with a pack of cigarettes he left behind on set. Joey says Depp was the only actor allowed to smoke in the Boggs house during filming, and now those cigs are proudly on display in the kitchen.

As you can see ... Joey and his wife have also maintained the Tim Burton vibe, and other than painting some rooms there was little renovation. Joey says they kept the original kitchen cabinets from the movie too.

Joey -- who worked as a dishwasher behind-the-scenes for the cast and crew way back when it was filming in his town -- says he and his wife would love for more people to donate any 'Scissorhands' items they have to their collection.

They also offer appointments for fans to come tour the home for free ... as long as they promise to be respectful of the neighborhood.

NFL's Nyheim Hines Cops Scary 'Candyman' Cleats ... 'Be My Victim'

Published | Updated

Don't be in front of a mirror when you read this ...

Indianapolis Colts star Nyheim Hines just copped some dope custom cleats of one of the most terrifying slasher movie icons of all time -- the Candyman!

TMZ Sports has learned Hines wanted to get some unique spikes made for Halloween ... and was debating between two characters, the Candyman and Michael Myers.

So, Hines hit up artist Rodney Jackson in Virginia ... and with Myers being done so many times, the two decided to go with the Candyman theme -- and they came out AWESOME.

One of the spikes has the Candyman with bees coming out of his mouth -- a reference to a spooky scene in the 1992 film (no spoilers here!).

On the other cleat, there's another depiction of the Candyman -- along with the quote, "Be my victim."

The Adidas cleats also feature fur on the back, which resemble the fictitious killer's coat.

Hines also got some non-scary cleats made ... we're told the 24-year-old had Jackson deliver him blue feet heat that features some of his favorite cartoon characters, Spongebob and Patrick.

The Colts might be 0-3 to start the year ... but Hines ain't losing the cleat game anytime soon.

SHE'S IN GOOD HANDS

Jim Belushi has some interesting, almost ominous, advice for Kim Kardashian as she prepares to host "Saturday Night Live" ... but ultimately he believes she'll do great.

Jim -- who was an 'SNL' cast member in the '80s after his famous older brother died -- was out in Bev Hills when we picked his brain about Kim hosting ... a decision some folks aren't down with.

According to Jim ... Kim should adhere to an old saying about traveling through hell, implying that hosting is like swimming with sharks, so she just needs to focus on the finish line.

He puts a more positive spin on it though, telling Kim ... so long as she follows the lead of the 'SNL' crew and trusts them ... she'll come out looking golden.

As we reported ... another sitcom star's not nearly as chipper about a Kardashian landing the hosting role -- Debra Messing. She threw shade Kim's way last month and questioned why she would even be given the opportunity.

Kim's hosting the show October 9 with musical guest Halsey, so we don't have to wait long to see if Jim's right ... or if Debra has a point.

'Free Britney' Movement Our Next Mission ... Free Amanda Bynes!!!

Published | Updated

Now that it appears Britney Spears will probably not be living under a conservatorship by year's end, members of the #FreeBritney movement say their focus will shift to the second-most famous conservatee ... Amanda Bynes.

TMZ spoke with several "Free Britney" supporters this week as they held a rally for her outside the L.A. courthouse amid the monumental hearing in her case.

As they celebrated Britney's father Jamie being removed from the conservatorship, we asked what they will put their energy toward once Brit's case is over, and the response was unanimous -- freeing Amanda.

THE FIGHT CONTINUES

Though we received varying explanations from the Britney fans on why they'll rally for Bynes next, it's clear many of them feel she's stuck in a similar, unfair situation ... even if there are different circumstances.

Further, the #FreeBritney movement has fired up folks to raise awareness about conservatorship pitfalls ... and Amanda's case seems to be the next logical move.

Megan Radford, one of the #FreeBritney organizers, tells TMZ the movement will definitely help Bynes next and similarly fight to end her conservatorship ... but also aims to keep educating the general public on conservatorship abuse with events and rallies.

However, Radford says her group also wants to help anyone who's experiencing conservatorship abuse ... and makes it clear they're still focused on Britney until she's officially free.

As we have reported, Amanda was diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. She was in desperate shape before the conservatorship was put in place. At one point she doused her dog with gasoline and almost lit it on fire. Her parents have worked as conservators over the years, and by all accounts, she is doing much better.

Btw, random fact ... along with the obvious Britney-Amanda connection with their conservatorships, the 2 also appeared on TV together back in 2000 on "The Amanda Show," when Spears was the musical guest.

BFF Serena in 'Legally Blonde' 'Memba Her?!

Los Angeles local Alanna Ubach was only 25 years old when she was cast as the loyal brunette best friend and sorority sister Serena McGuire -- who lived alongside Elle at the Delta Nu house and supported her sister in her legal endeavors -- in the 2001 classic comedy "Legally Blonde" and the 2003 follow film "Legally Blonde: Red, White & Blonde."

Alanna shared the big screen role with some other awesome actors including Selma Blair as Warner's old/new girlfriend, Vivian ... and of course Reese Witherspoon as the law school success, Elle Woods.

Ubach has widened her scope to an impressive career in voiceover work on animated entertainment like "Puppy Dog Pals" and "Monsters At Work."

Scarlett Johansson Settles Lawsuit with Disney ... Over 'Black Widow' Money

Published

Scarlett Johansson is no longer at war with Disney over her "Black Widow" bottom line ... the actress and the Mouse House reached a settlement, sources confirm to TMZ.

The exact terms of the settlement are unclear, but Scarlett says ... "I am happy to have resolved our differences with Disney." In a statement that sounds very much like an attempt to mend fences, she adds she's proud of the work she and Disney have done, has enjoyed their "creative relationship" and looks forward to collaborating further.

Disney Studios honcho Alan Bergman is also making nice after the explosive suit ... saying he's pleased with the settlement, appreciates Scarlett's role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and looks forward to working with her on upcoming movies, like "Tower of Terror."

Translation: Let's make nice and get back to making movies.

As we reported ... Scarlett sued Disney back in July, claiming the simultaneous release of "Black Widow" in theaters and on Disney+ violated her contract and cost her big money.

Things quickly turned ugly, with Disney responding to the suit with a blistering statement, attacking ScarJo and her suit for what the studio called a "callous disregard for the horrific and prolonged global effects of the COVID-19 pandemic."

Scarlett's agent shot back, ripping Disney for announcing she'd made $20 million for the movie, and accused Disney of attempting "to weaponize her success as an artist and businesswoman."

The suit had the potential to get even uglier, but with the settlement in place, it seems they just want to bury the nasty war of words ... and make more money together.
