DeAndre Hopkins' Mom Subject of New Movie About Surviving Horrific Attack
The mother of NFL star DeAndre Hopkins was blinded in a violent attack in 2002 -- but the way she heroically fought to stay alive and continue to raise her family is now the subject of a major Hollywood movie.
Sabrina Greenlee has talked about the incident before ... she was ambushed by a woman who was the girlfriend of a guy Sabrina had only been dating for 3 months. Sabrina had no idea the man was in another relationship.
The attacker threw a dangerous mixture of Red Devil Lye (drain cleaner) and Clorox bleach at Sabrina's face, blinding her immediately ... and almost causing her to suffocate.
But, she fought like hell to recover -- always thinking about her 4 children, including DeAndre, who was only 12 years old at the time of the attack.
After the incident, Sabrina fell into a deep depression and began to abuse alcohol.
But, somehow she managed to battle through it all and became an active and important mother to her kids and a leader in the community.
Now, Hollywood has taken notice -- BRON Studios has partnered up with Good Fear and Kituufu Films to make "Sabrina."
Sam Bailey of HBO's "Brown Girls" is set to direct the flick ... and "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days" writer Kristen Buckley is working on the screenplay.
No word on who will play Sabrina on the big screen ... but ya gotta think huge stars would love this kind of inspiring role.
DeAndre is obviously proud of his mom -- and issued a statement saying, "My mom has always put everyone before herself and sacrificed things unimaginable."
"Now it’s time for people to see her true value and learn that giving up is not an option."
Greenlee -- who also survived multiple abuse relationships before the attack -- now helps fellow survivors through her non-profit, S.M.O.O.O.T.H., Inc. which stands for Speaking Mentally, Outwardly Opening Opportunities Toward Healing.

Kurt Russell Still Mr. Hollywood ... Not Just 'Once Upon a Time'
Kurt Russell is a huge fan of his latest film ... busting out a super cool piece of swag from the Quentin Tarantino flick he stars in, while hitting up a classic Hollywood haunt for celebs.
We got these pics of Kurt shopping at the Farmers Market at The Grove over the weekend with his grandkids ... no big shocker -- until we got the rear view. He was rocking a jacket with the "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" logo on the back!!
Kurt's one lucky dude ... costarring with Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio and Margot Robbie in Quentin's 9th film. As a Hollywood vet, he obviously knows the game -- it's NEVER too early to start promoting and pumping up that box office!
The movie -- about Hollywood in the days of Charles Manson murders -- lands on big screens in July, but it's mostly been shrouded in secrecy. Quentin won't even say who Kurt's playing.
It's kinda fitting ... Kurt stopped by Magee's House of Nuts while proudly displaying the jacket. The stand has been a staple at the Farmers Market for decades, and once upon a time, it was beloved by President Eisenhower and The Beatles.
Just don't try sneaking those snacks into the premiere, Kurt.

John Singleton Dead at 51
4:01 PM PT -- Ice Cube, who starred in "Boyz n the Hood" just gave us an emotional statement on John's passing, saying, "Thank you John for being my friend, brother and mentor for 30 years. For believing in me when I was unsure of myself. Your passion for telling our stories from our point of view was more than an obsession, it was your mission in life."
Cube continues, "Your love for the black experience was contagious and I would never be the man I am without knowing you. On April 29, 1992 you were on TV warning the world what was to come. I'm sad today, cause on this April 29th who will warn the world what's to come. I love you and miss you already brother."
"Boyz n the Hood" was Cube's first major role in film.
John Singleton, the first African American nominated for an Academy Award for Best Director -- whose decorated career spanned nearly three decades in Hollywood -- has died ... TMZ has learned.
A Singleton family rep says he passed "peacefully, surrounded by his family and friends." The news comes more than a week after the famed director suffered a massive stroke. As we first reported ... John's mom, Shelia Ward, filed legal docs asking the judge to appoint her temporary conservator because he was "unable to properly provide for his personal needs for physical health, food, clothing, or shelter." He had been in a coma in ICU at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in L.A.
The "Boyz n the Hood" director suffered the stroke 12 days ago after returning from Costa Rica and experiencing problems with his legs. He checked himself into Cedars where he suffered a stroke on April 17 in his hospital room.
Waiting for your permission to load the Instagram Media.
John directed 9 films ... including "Poetic Justice," "Higher Learning," "Four Brothers" and "2 Fast 2 Furious." He also has several high-profile producer credits to his name ... including the critically acclaimed film "Hustle & Flow." He co-created the FX hit series "Snowfall" and directed episodes of "The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story" as well as "Empire" and "Billions."
John's burst to stardom came just 2 years after he graduated from USC. He was only 24 years old when he made his directorial debut ... and the world noticed, earning him an Oscar nomination in 1992 for Best Director. He also earned a nomination for Best Original Screenplay.
7/18/18
He heavily guarded the project from start to finish ... only allowing the 'Breakfast Club' director John Hughes to read his script. Raised in South Central L.A. and coupled with the fact 'Boyz' was set in the same area -- John refused to let anyone else direct his film.
The move paid off ... because in 2002 it was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry.
John's family said, "Like many African Americans, Singleton quietly struggled with hypertension. More than 40% of African American men and women have high blood pressure, which also develops earlier in life and is usually more severe. His family wants to share the message with all to please recognize the symptoms by going to Heart.org."
The family also revealed something we didn't know. He kayaked in Marina del Rey every morning. They also said his greatest joy other than making movies was sailing his boat, J's Dream, up and down the Pacific Coast.
The family added, "We who have grown up with John, made movies with him, sailed with John and laughed with John, know the universe of calm and creativity he created for so many. Now in the wake of his death, we must navigate the storm without him. It is, for us, heartbreaking."
John was married only once ... to Ghanaian actress Akosua Gyamama Busia in October 1996. They divorced a year later. He's survived by his mom and 7 children.
John was 51.
RIP

John's family encouraged his fans to recognize symptoms and visit heart.org for more information.
John Singleton is still alive, contrary to reports Monday morning, but it does not look good.
John's publicist tells us the famed director is alive and on life support at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in L.A. We're told John is still in a medically-induced coma and is non-responsive and not getting better.
TMZ broke the story ... John suffered a stroke at Cedars 12 days ago ... this after checking himself into the hospital because of pain in one of his legs.
The "Boyz n the Hood" director has not responded to treatment and his condition is dire ... after what his mother, Shelia Ward, characterized as a major stroke.
In the middle of all of this, there's a family war over control of John's estate. Shelia has asked a judge to appoint her temporary conservator to handle his business affairs, while one of his daughters, Cleopatra, is trying to block the conservatorship, claiming Shelia is trying to fleece the estate and freeze out his 7 children.

Zak Bagans Adds Haunted Rocking Chair to Collection ... From 'Devil Made Me Do It' Case
-
EXCLUSIVE
- 11.6K shares
Zak Bagans is at it again -- his Haunted Museum now has another terrifying piece of furniture ... this one connected to an exorcism and an infamous murder.
The "Ghost Adventures" star has purchased the "Devil's Rocking Chair" -- a chair with ties to famed paranormal investigator Lorraine Warren and the notorious "Devil Made Me Do It" Case -- to display at his museum in Las Vegas.
The story goes like this -- Lorraine and her husband, Ed, helped exorcise a possessed 11-year-old boy named David Glatzel in the early '80s. During his exorcisms, the chair would allegedly rock on its own, levitate, and even vanish and reappear. David and Lorraine also claim to have seen the devil sitting in it.
Witnesses say the final exorcism concluded when the demon fled David's body and entered Arne Cheyenne Johnson, a man who killed his landlord months later during an argument and claimed it was due to his demonic possession.
The Warrens backed him up ... but the judge didn't buy it and he was convicted of first-degree manslaughter. The story's the premise of the 1983 book, "The Devil in Connecticut" and is rumored to be the plot of "The Conjuring 3."
Anyway ... Bagans dropped $67,000 to add the creepy chair -- which still has holy oil stains on it left by Ed Warren -- to his collection.
Zak bought it from Carl Glatzel, David's brother. We're told Carl decided to sell the chair because he's moving and doesn't want to take it with him ... even though it's been in his family since the '50s.
Carl says the family heirloom has mostly been avoided due to its bad juju. He claims those who have been brave or stupid enough to sit in it have paid the price with back pain afterward ... one of his friends even had to have surgery!!!
BTW -- we're told Bagans bought the "Devil's Rocking Chair" from Carl just hours before Lorraine died. As we reported ... she passed away last week at the age of 92.

John Singleton Stroke Ignites Family War ... Between His Mom and Daughter
John Singleton's stroke triggered what appears to be a family war over his condition and care, because one of John's daughters has just effectively called John's mother a liar.
Cleopatra Singleton claims in new legal docs, obtained by TMZ, that her dad is NOT in a coma and claims he's getting better everyday. This is in stark contrast to the legal docs filed just yesterday by John's mom, Shelia, who claimed he was in a coma and had suffered a "major stroke."
We broke the story, Shelia wanted to establish a conservatorship to handle John's business dealings while he lay incapacitated.
Cleopatra says Shelia is up to no good, claiming she's abused her position as John's personal and business manager, especially when it came to supporting his 7 children. Cleopatra, a college sophomore, says in the docs that Shelia has stated her intention to liquidate John's assets and leave his kids with nothing.
Cleopatra attacks Shelia, saying, "My father's allowed his mother to stay in that position out of fear and obligation to her as she's bullied and abandoned my father since he was a small child, leaving him emotionally defenseless."
John suffered a stroke last week as he was being treated at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in L.A. as a patient for a problem with his leg.
Cleopatra says her father is breathing on his own but is in a medically sedated state. She says he responds to stimuli and has even smiled on many occasions. She adds, doctors have told her John could be out of ICU in 5 days.

'Avengers: Endgame' Spoiler-Free Internet Searches ... Thanks, Thanos & Google!!!
Okay, you don't have to be an "Avengers: Endgame" fanatic to think this is SUPER cool -- 'cause it just is -- but if you are a Marvel die-hard ... Google's got your back.
You know how everyone associated with the blockbuster -- which opened Thursday night -- is panicked about spoilers hitting the Internet once people have seen it? Well, take a second and Google "Thanos" (for the uninitiated, he's the movie's villain).
Now, turn up the volume ... and on the right side of your screen click the gold glove with all the Infinity Stones in it. Watch and listen as Google cuts your search results in half -- a very Thanos move, if ya know movie -- and thereby reduces your chances of finding spoilers to the movie!!!
If you don't want to go through the process ... we recorded it so you can see how it works.
Everyone from the film's directors, Anthony and Joe Russo, to the cast of roughly 97 superstars have begged fans to avoid blowing the movie experience. Hell, we got Thanos himself, Josh Brolin, making his plea.
We don't know if it will work -- there are a lot of jerks out there -- but kudos to Google and Disney for coming up with this.
That's just cool ... we don't care who you are.

Johnny Depp Van Crashes Outside His Home ... Driver Flees Scene!!!

EXCLUSIVE
Johnny Depp got an unwanted visitor at his Los Angeles estate when an unknown driver smashed a van into a street sign ... then ghosted before cops could show up.
Law enforcement sources tell TMZ ... police are investigating a hit-and-run outside the actor's home after someone crashed into a "no parking" sign around 3:30 AM Thursday. We know what you're thinking -- this is someone with a parking grudge against the city.
Could be, but there's no way to know for sure because the clown left a banged up 2000 Chevy van, and fled the scene. Johnny's home itself wasn't damaged -- just the one fallen soldier ... the sign just to the left of his driveway.
We're told the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' star was not home at the time of the crash.
As you can see in our pics from the scene ... the street sign broke at its base, toppling over and taking out some shrubbery. Our law enforcement sources say police recovered the van, but there was no note with contact info.
That means the driver's on the hook for a hit-and-run.

Michael Madsen Loses $100k Movie Role ... Because of DUI Charge

Michael Madsen's recent DUI charge is already costing him a big payday -- even though he hasn't been convicted, he's been 86'd from a movie.
Sources close to production on the upcoming flick, "Chronicle of a Serial Killer," tell TMZ ... Michael's reps were notified Thursday he's been canned from the cast. That's no small loss for Madsen, who was supposed to earn $100,000 for gig.
We broke the story ... Michael was just charged with 2 misdemeanors for DUI after smashing his Land Rover in Malibu last month. Our sources tell us that's the reason he's getting booted from the movie.
Filming begins next month in NYC, and we're told production is worried Madsen won't be around to shoot ... because he could be heading to jail. Michael's a repeat DUI offender, and mandatory sentencing guidelines mean he could get anywhere from 4 to 364 days in county lockup ... if convicted.
It's kinda ironic ... Michael was cast to play an NYPD officer in 'Serial Killer,' a psychological thriller/drama co-starring Tara Reid, DMX and Brendan Sexton III.
A replacement is already in the works. We're told James Russo just signed on to the cast ... most likely to fill Michael's role.

John Singleton In a Coma after 'Major Stroke'

EXCLUSIVE

John Singleton's stroke is way more serious than his family first revealed -- it was a major stroke and he is in a coma -- and we've learned the family is in the process of establishing a conservatorship for him.
TMZ broke the story ... Singleton suffered a stroke last week after returning from Costa Rica and experienced problems with his legs. He checked himself into Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in L.A. and suffered a stroke Wednesday in his hospital room.
We know he was in the ICU as of last weekend, but family members characterized the stroke as "mild."
According to the legal docs, obtained by TMZ, John's mom, Shelia Ward, is asking a judge to appoint her temporary conservator because he is "unable to properly provide for his personal needs for physical health, food, clothing, or shelter."
His mother said, at the time he suffered the stroke, he was engaged in several business projects and was prepared to sign a lucrative settlement agreement. She wants to handle those affairs and execute the settlement agreement.
The 51-year-old famed director of "Boyz N the Hood" did not have any medical directives ... thus the need for a conservatorship.
