Purell's hand sanitizer sales have skyrocketed in recent weeks amid the coronavirus pandemic, but it might have to use some of that money for legal fees ... it's been hit with a class action lawsuit alleging its germ-killing claims are BS.

Purell manufacturer, Gojo Industries, was sued last week in Ohio federal court by 4 individuals claiming the Purell packaging flaunts "misleading claims" about the effectiveness of its product.

According to the legal docs ... Purell's front label claims that it "kills 99.99% of illness causing germs" implies that figure is backed by scientific support, but the folks suing say none exists.

Likewise, the suit adds that Purell hand sanitizer claims to help prevent infection and diseases, but there's allegedly "no sound scientific evidence to support the claims."

The lawsuit also mentions a letter sent by the FDA to Gojo in January, which plaintiffs' claim describes Purell as "nothing more than a topical antiseptic," which was not safe and effective in preventing infection.

It's officially curtains for the XFL's season ... the league is shutting down due to coronavirus.

Vince McMahon's org. decided to postpone the re-inaugural season last week ... but given recent state regulations handed down across the country, there was no way the shop could stay open.

"The COVID-19 pandemic, and the most recent local and state regulations, have left the XFL no choice but to officially cancel the remainder of the 2020 season," the league said in a statement.

"This decision has been made with the health and safety of the entire XFL family as our top priority."

The league makes it crystal clear -- the XFL WILL be back in 2021, despite the rough ending to the 2020 season.

FYI -- the coronavirus made its way to the league just days ago ... with a Seattle Dragons player testing positive for the infection.

"When our teams return to the field, we’ll make every effort to ensure your faith in us is rewarded with even more fun and excitement. Your passion is our purpose, and everything we do, every day and for every season to come, is For the Love of Football."

New York is hitting pause amid the coronavirus pandemic ... the entire state is shutting down to protect residents from the outbreak.

New Yorkers will only be allowed to leave their homes for essential business, and all other workers are being told to stay home, as ordered by Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who says there will be a civil fine and mandatory closure for any biz not in compliance.

Cuomo is calling this, "New York state on pause," and he says it's the most drastic action the state can take to fight the outbreak.

The shutdown rules -- remain indoors aside from solitary exercise outside, pre-screen all visitors and aides by taking temperatures, don't visit households with multiple people, vulnerable people should wear a mask around others, stay at least 6 feet away from individuals, only take public transportation if it's urgent and absolutely necessary.

Cuomo says the state has more than 7,000 confirmed coronavirus cases ... this out of more than 32,000 individual tests.

New York follows the entire state of California in putting non-essential workers on 24-hour virus lockdown ... meaning 1 in 5 Americans are being told to stay home.

Cuomo says the mandate is not a "shelter in place" order ... and he says mass transit workers, restaurant staff doing delivery and take-out count as essential workers and can still go to work.

Los Angeles is implementing what seems to be inevitably coming for the rest of the U.S. sooner than later -- a 24-hour mandated quarantine for all residents to help "flatten the curve" of the coronavirus pandemic.

L.A. residents will no longer be able to leave their homes around-the-clock for the next month -- as ordered by Mayor Eric Garcetti -- except for medical reasons and grocery store runs. It's called the "Safer at Home" order.

The new countywide policy comes on the heels of the city of San Francisco enacting the same rules, which match what Italy began doing last week after it was hit hard by COVID-19 cases.

Garcetti says the lockdown will be in effect starting Friday and ending on April 19 ... at least that's the plan for now.

The "Safer at Home" order mandates the closure of all shopping centers, indoor malls, playgrounds and non-essential business, while also prohibiting gatherings of more than 10 people in enclosed spaces.

Residents can still leave their homes to go on walks to get exercise, and to get food and gas. People can also leave their homes to go care for loved ones.

As we reported ... along with the San Fran shutdown, 6 additional Bay Area counties told residents to "shelter in place," which means unless your work falls under the list of "essential businesses," you're ordered to stay home.

That list includes healthcare operations, grocery stores, shelters, media outlets, gas stations, banks and restaurants -- but only for takeout and delivery. And, now L.A. is doing the same.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is teaming with TikTok to make sure grade school students don't go hungry while schools close amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Here's the deal ... TikTok is donating $3 million to help provide meals to needy families across the country, and it's working with Arnold's After-School All-Stars programs to make it happen.

As you know, schools across the nation are closing their doors due to the outbreak. And, unfortunately, millions of students depend on their schools for daily meals.

The massive donation will help families in 60 cities feed those hungry students by providing food vouchers, and gift cards that can be used on food and other essential items at local grocery stores.

The food credits and gift cards are first going to families in cities most impacted by the virus ... which includes Los Angeles, New York City, Miami, San Francisco, D.C. and Seattle. Stores like Food Land, Kroger, Giant, Publix, Ralphs, Safeway, Walmart and Target are supplying the grub.

O.J. Simpson is pleading with golf courses nationwide -- PLEASE stay open during the coronavirus scare ... or old dudes across the country are gonna lose their damn minds.

While he continues his search to find the "real killer," O.J. spends a lot of time on the links ... and on Wednesday, he voiced his frustrations with his local course planning to close during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"You don't really get that close to one another on a golf course," O.J. said. "And, I think for some of the older guys that golf as their only exercise, I think it's gonna hurt them if you start closing all the golf courses."

"I'm just saying, and if you do close them, you better open up some insane asylum, get me a bed because I know if I can't play golf for the next month, I'ma go crazy."

Kellen Winslow will have to wait to learn his punishment in his rape case ... TMZ Sports has confirmed his sentencing hearing Wednesday has been postponed indefinitely over coronavirus.

The former NFL star was convicted this past year of multiple sex crimes against several women -- including the rape of a 17-year-old unconscious woman back in 2003.

At one point in the case, Kellen was staring down LIFE IN PRISON over the charges ... but he cut a plea deal back in November to ensure he'd only be facing between 12-18 years behind bars as punishment.

Winslow was supposed to learn his fate Wednesday ... but officials tell us due to coronavirus fears, the sentencing phase has been shelved with no future date set yet.

Winslow -- who's been held in jail without bail since March 2019 -- will remain in custody.

As for what his punishment will ultimately be ... Winslow has advocated for the 12 years as opposed to the 18, telling a judge back in November that he needed to see his family.

Winslow had a February date initially planned for his sentencing hearing ... but that got postponed as well after his attorneys claimed they needed more time to prepare an argument for 12 years for the former tight end rather than 18.

President Trump has declared coronavirus a "National Emergency" and says his administration is doing everything they can to get it under control.

Trump, joined by VP Pence and other health officials, held a presser at The White House Friday to update the public on the disease. In declaring the situation a "National Emergency" Trump says $50 billion will be allocated to testing, treatment and getting it under control.

Trump also announced he was waiving interest on federal student loans until further notice.

Google has joined the fight as well, the company has more than one thousand engineers working on a coronavirus website to help people find testing centers and take preventative measures.

Of course, Trump's announcement came with a couple digs ... most notably, one at Obamacare. In announcing the Google partnership, he said the website would be completed quickly, unlike websites in the past. Obamacare's launch was full of issues.

There was also a point where Trump shook the hands of those around, but Bruce Greenstein of LHC Group knew better, opting for an elbow bump instead.

Drive-thru testing centers will also be a part of the plan, hitting heavily impacted areas.

Starbucks -- a place millions of Americans rely on for free wireless as much as coffee -- is now considering shutting down in-store operations due to the coronavirus.

Starbucks CEO Kevin Johnson penned a letter to customers outlining how it plans to combat the spread of the coronavirus -- and says they "may adapt the store experience by limiting seating to improve social distancing, enable mobile order-only scenarios for pickup via the Starbucks App or delivery via Uber Eats, or in some cases only the Drive Thru will be open."

The coffee giant says that as a last resort it could shut down the store all together "if we feel it is in the best interest of our customers and partners."

These are precautionary steps in addition to increased cleaning and sanitizing procedures for its thousands of stores. For the record, Starbucks says it's currently maintaining regular operations across the U.S. and Canada, and will modify operations on a community-by-community and store-by-store basis.

Starbucks choosing to take extreme measures is not surprising ... considering the NBA, MLS, NHL, MLB and a slew of other corporations have shut down regular operations during the health crisis.

As we told you ... America's biggest buffet restaurant chains are staying open, for now, but rolling out new hygiene measures.

International soccer star Daniele Rugani -- who plays alongside Cristiano Ronaldo for Juventus -- has tested positive for coronavirus ... the team announced Wednesday.

The team says the 25-year-old Italian is currently asymptomatic ... but he's been quarantined along with all the people he has had contact with in recent weeks.

Rugani is a rising star in the sport ... and has played for Juventus since 2013.

The coronavirus has spread like wildfire throughout Italy ... with reportedly more than 600 deaths and 10,000 known cases.

Juventus has been one of the many football clubs playing without fans in the past weeks ... and most recently played Inter Milan on March 8th. Rugani posted a celebratory pic after his squad won the match.

As we previously reported ... the coronavirus has caused all major American sports leagues to limit the media's access to players -- banning them from locker-rooms and clubhouses.

The NCAA tournament and several Golden State Warriors games will be played without fans in the stands.
