Prince likely had NO idea he was even taking the fentanyl that ended up killing him, according to prosecutors who have found no one to criminally charge for his death.

Carver County Attorney Mark Metz said Prince had taken counterfeit Vicodin that was laced with fentanyl. He said they could not find sufficient evidence of who supplied the counterfeit pills, and as a result ... there will be no criminal charges in his death.

As we reported, a toxicology report showed Prince had "exceedingly high" levels of the opioid in his system when he died -- even for a chronic pain patient.

Metz added it was likely Prince had also taken one of the counterfeit Vicodin when he overdosed on a private jet the week before he died. TMZ broke the story ... Prince made an emergency landing in Moline, Illinois, where emergency responders gave him 2 shots of Narcan to save his life.

Metz said Prince had been prescribed Percocet by Dr. Michael Schulenberg days before he overdosed, but says it played no role in his death. TMZ obtained a photo of Prince pacing outside a Walgreens the day before he died, waiting for a prescription to be filled.

Schulenberg had prescribed the Percocet to Prince's bodyguard, Kirk Johnson, as a cover for Prince. The federal government went after Schulenberg for that violation, and he just reached a settlement ... agreeing to pay a $30k fine.

Prince died at 57 at his Paisley Park compound in Minnesota on April 21, 2016.

LaForce was catching hell on social media Wednesday night from people who thought it was WAY out of line to ask LeBron about Erin Popovich in the moments after the Cavs playoff game.

But, LeBron went to bat for the reporter -- making a video explaining the entire situation and essentially saying LaForce couldn't have been more professional or sensitive to the situation.

Gregg Popovich's wife, Erin, has died ... according to a statement released by the San Antonio Spurs.

Erin died Wednesday, but the cause of death is unknown at this time. The news comes as a shock to players and fans -- although it's being reported she'd been ill for an extended period ... Coach Popovich hadn't said anything publicly.

Erin and Gregg were married for 4 decades and have 2 kids and 2 grandchildren.

Spurs GM R.C. Buford says, "We mourn the loss of Erin ... She was a strong, wonderful, kind, intelligent woman who provided love, support and humor to all of us."

The Spurs are scheduled to take on the Golden State Warriors in Game 3 of their playoff series Thursday night in San Antonio. Kevin Durant was told the sad news at practice and was at a loss for words.

Erin was 67.

Ex-Playmate Karen McDougal is clear to spill the beans about her alleged affair with Donald Trump ... and, perhaps most importantly to her, make a ton o' money off it.

McDougal had sued the National Enquirer's parent company, American Media, over a non-disclosure agreement she signed with them in 2016. She got $150k and some promotional perks, and the Enquirer got her exclusive story about the 2006 affair with Trump. She sued to get out of the deal.

Well, they reached a settlement ... according to the New York Times, and is now allowed to talk all she wants about her Trump relationship. You'll recall, McDougal sat down with Anderson Cooper last month for a CNN special.

So, why does the settlement matter? It's pretty clear based on the terms, which include American Media getting $75k of any future profits Karen makes off selling the Trump story.

Canelo Alvarez just got slapped with a 6-month suspension for his failed performance enhancing drug test that he blamed on tainted meat ... the Nevada Athletic Commission just announced at a hearing in Vegas.

The commission only took minutes to deliberate on Alvarez's case ... ultimately giving him half of a maximum 1-year ban, noting that he's been "cooperative with investigators."

Canelo's May 5 rematch with Gennady Golovkin has already been scrapped ... but, this opens the door for Alvarez vs. Golovkin 2 to happen in September -- a time frame GGG previously told TMZ Sports he's gunnin' for.

Barbara Bush -- former First Lady of the United States and wife of 41st President George H.W. Bush -- has died.

The former First Lady died at her home Tuesday surrounded by her family. She had suffered from congestive heart failure and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).

Barbara decided herself when it was time to go, telling her doctors Sunday she chose to decline medical treatment in favor of comfort care.

Both Barbara and George were hospitalized in Houston in early 2017 for various health issues, but she was spry and all smiles with her husband for the Super Bowl 51 coin toss a month later.

Barbara served as First Lady from 1989 to 1993, but also as Second Lady for the 8 years during the Reagan administration. She was known for working to make advancements in universal literacy, and founded the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy.

She's survived by her husband, 4 sons -- including George W. and Jeb Bush -- a daughter ... 17 grandchildren and 7 great grandkids.

The White House released a statement shortly after the announcement of her passing, saying, "She will be long remembered for her strong devotion to country and family, both of which she served unfailingly well. The President and First Lady's thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Mrs. Bush."

Barbara was 92.

It ain't easy being Mrs. Cheesy, apparently ... because the guy who voices Chester Cheetah is getting divorced.

Maral Leadbeater filed her divorce petition Tuesday in Los Angeles, officially calling it quits from Adam Leadbeater ... best known as the voice of the Cheetos mascot. The docs are pretty straightforward ... Maral cites irreconcilable differences, and says their date of separation was April 15. Tax day can be a bitch.

They were married for 2 and a half years and have no little cheetah cubs at home.

According to the docs, Maral is not asking for spousal support, and she doesn't want to pay either. One thing she does want is her maiden name back -- 'cause Derohanessian beats Leadbetter any day?

It's not spelled out, but she's gotta be demanding some way to get that damn orange dust off her belongings.

4:30 PM PT -- The one fatality is the woman who was sucked out of the window, TMZ has learned. Passengers said Jennifer Riordan's entire upper body was outside and she was bleeding profusely before others were able to pull her back inside the cabin. They performed CPR on her for up to 20 minutes.

1:18 PM PT -- One person is confirmed dead, according to a rep for the National Transportation Safety Board.

Southwest Airlines passengers were remarkably calm moments after one of the plane's engines was shredded by something -- despite the fact one of them was almost sucked out of the cabin.

The images from the Tuesday morning flight -- which made an emergency landing in Philadelphia -- are pretty terrifying. Shrapnel from the left wing turbine apparently flew back and shattered a cabin window, and witnesses say, if not for the aid of her fellow passengers ... one woman would have been sucked through the opening.

Video shot by one of the passengers shows the oxygen masks deployed, but the cabin is eerily quiet, other than a rush of wind.

The plane, which was on its way from NYC to Dallas, managed to touch down relatively safely in Philly. Only one passenger was taken to the hospital.

Kodak Black got some good news while sitting in his jail cell that will help him get out much sooner than expected ... TMZ has learned.

The rapper's attorney, Bradford Cohen, tells us 2 remaining charges from the January raid of his Florida home have been dropped. The charges were for marijuana possession and possession of ammunition.

We're told Kodak admitted 2 other probation violation charges -- driving with a suspended license and associating with people engaged in criminal activity. He'll get credit for time served, which puts him in line for an October release with good behavior.

Once the rapper's free, the remaining year of house arrest and 4 years of probation will be wiped from his slate ... according to Cohen. He adds, "Kodak [and I] are extremely happy to resolve this case with an excellent resolution. It was very nice to deal with a fair judge who understood the circumstances -- along with prosecutors."
