Aniah Blanchard Remains Confirmed As Her ... Case Is Now Homicide Investigation

"IT IS WITH A HEAVY HEART ..."
UPDATE

12:15 PM PT -- Officials have confirmed the body found in a wooded area in Alabama is, in fact, Aniah Blanchard.

UPDATE

Cops say the positive identification means the case will now move forward as a homicide investigation.

UPDATE
UPDATE

Investigators are still trying to figure out the cause of death and any other facts related to the case. They're still asking for help from the public if anyone knows anything about Aniah's death.

Aniah Blanchard's mom was surrounded by friends and family at a vigil in Alabama on Tuesday where she shared memories of the 19-year-old and told the crowd, "She was my heart."

Officials believe Blanchard -- stepdaughter of UFC fighter Walt Harris -- was abducted at a Chevron station in Auburn on Oct. 23rd.

Investigators found remains earlier this week that are believed to be Aniah's -- and while officials are still working to confirm, her mother Angela Harris is already starting to mourn.

"Just her laughter and her smile, that’s what I'm going to miss the most," Harris told ABC33 ... "Just her happiness because she made life better for all of us."

"She's never gonna have my grandbabies that I wanted her to have or see her get married."

Aniah's closest friends hugged Angela at the vigil as she told the girls, "She loved y'all so much."

So far, three men have been arrested in connection with Blanchard's abduction -- but Harris says she feels a strong sense of guilt about the whole thing.

“Maybe not even anything I could have done, but I should have prepared her just a little bit better for things she might have come into contact with."

Officials believe Blanchard was forced into a vehicle by Ibraheem Yazeed -- who was seen at the gas station the night of the abduction. Cops tracked him down and arrested him in Florida.

Harris says she hopes other families will learn from this situation to help better protect their children.

"It can happen to you, it can happen to your family. So from tonight on, go home make a plan, get some things together, talk to your kids so we can prevent this and start fighting back for this evil that’s in this world."

Published
UPDATE

10:58 AM PT -- Akim Aliu just spoke further about the racist insults Peters allegedly hurled his way ... and they're disgusting.

UPDATE

"He walked in before a morning pre-game skate and said ‘Hey, Akim, I’m sick of you playing that n***** s**t,'" Aliu told TSN. "He said ‘I’m sick of hearing this n*****s f**king other n*****s in the ass stuff.'"

UPDATE

Aliu added, “He then walked out like nothing ever happened. You could hear a pin drop in the room, everything went dead silent. I just sat down in my stall, didn’t say a word.”

UPDATE

TSN says it spoke with two of Aliu's former teammates who corroborated the story.

UPDATE

Calgary GM Brad Treliving readdressed the media shortly after the report ... and said they have not fired Peters over the allegations yet -- adding the investigation is still ongoing.

UPDATE
Brad Treliving Statement
A SERIOUS ALLEGATION

The NHL has launched an investigation into claims Calgary Flames head coach Bill Peters called a black player the n-word while he was managing a minor league team 10 years ago.

While the Flames were playing the Penguins on Monday ... ex-NHL player Akim Aliu took to Twitter and accused Calgary's coach of hurling racial slurs at him during their time together in 2009.

30-year-old Aliu played for Peters in the 2009-10 season when the guy was coaching the Rockford Ice Hogs ... and Aliu says on multiple occasions, Peters called him the n-word.

"Dropped the N bomb several times towards me in the dressing room in my rookie year because he didn’t like my choice of music," Aliu said.

Aliu never mentioned Peters by name in the tweets ... but he made it clear he was talking about the 53-year-old coach when he called him Mike Babcock's "protege."

FYI, Babcock -- who was recently fired by the Toronto Maple Leafs -- coached Peters in college and is considered the guy's biggest hockey mentor.

For their part, the Flames immediately announced they were launching a probe into the allegations ... with general manager Brad Treliving telling reporters they take the claims seriously.

Brad Treliving
WE'RE LOOKING INTO IT

The NHL weighed in on the issue Tuesday as well ... saying it's launching a probe too, adding, "The behavior that has been alleged is repugnant and unacceptable."

Peters was not made available to the media after the Flames' game Monday night ... and he's yet to address the allegations himself.

Myles Garrett Charity Event Appearance ... See, I'm Not A Monster!!!

Published | Updated

Here's Myles Garrett in the middle of a PR offensive ... 'cause just days after his indefinite NFL ban was upheld for being a violent monster -- he showed up to a charity event to prove he's actually a nice guy!

The Cleveland Browns superstar's reputation has been under fire ever since he attacked Mason Rudolph with a helmet -- but now, the image rehab process is clearly underway.

The 23-year-old showed up to a Cleveland Feed the Need event Tuesday and said all the right things to try to show he deserves a place again in the NFL next season.

"I love to be out here just helping," Garrett said ... "I just love giving back. That's it. There's nothing more to it."

It's a smart move by Myles, considering even dudes like Michael Vick think he bungled everything that's gone down since his violent incident in the Browns-Steelers game earlier this month.

Garrett was asked how he's dealing with the backlash from helmetgate ... to which he replied, "You have ups and downs in your life and right now, I'm giving back to people."

So ... is it working?

Aniah Blanchard Cops Find Human Remains ... 'We Believe It's Aniah'

Published
UPDATE

1:13 PM PT -- Officials have now arrested a THIRD person in connection with Aniah's disappearance.

UPDATE

David Johnson Jr. was taken into custody in Montgomery, AL and has been charged with hindering prosecution, according to prosecutors.

Heart-breaking news in the search for Aniah Blanchard ... cops believe they found the 19-year-old's body in a wooded area in Alabama.

Cops have been searching for Aniah ever since she was abducted from a Chevron station on Oct. 23. Blanchard is the step-daughter of UFC fighter Walt Harris.

Days after her disappearance, officials had found Aniah's car, which was covered in blood ... and believed she had suffered a fatal injury during the kidnapping.

Cops hunted down Ibraheem Yazeed -- the prime suspect -- who was seen at the gas station with Blanchard in the moments before her abduction. He was arrested in Florida after leading cops on a pursuit and suffered a busted eye during the apprehension. He's since been charged with 1st-degree kidnapping.

Now, terrible news ... cops say they found human remains in Macon County, Alabama and they believe it's Aniah.

"I can confirm that human remains have been found in Macon County on County Road 2 and we have good reason to believe they are that of Aniah Blanchard," Lee County District Attorney Brandon Hughes said.

Officials say the remains were found in the area between the Chevron Station in Auburn where she went missing and the spot where her car was discovered in Montgomery.

A second suspect in Aniah's disappearance was arrested on Friday -- Antwain "Squirmy" Shamar Fisher -- who's also been charged with 1st-degree kidnapping.

NCAA Hoops Star Kamiyah Street Arrested for Murder ... Cops Have Video

Published | Updated
UPDATE

10:36 AM PT -- Kamiyah Street not only ADMITTED being involved in the murder, according to cops ... but officials say they have VIDEO of the basketball star "during the homicide."

UPDATE

"The Atlanta Police Department identified Kamiyah Street by reviewing surveillance video captured during the homicide," prosecutors tell TMZ Sports.

UPDATE

"Upon questioning, Street admitted her presence and participation in the death of Hubbard-Etienne," prosecutors say.

UPDATE

"Our independent investigation of the shooting and its circumstances clearly indicated Street’s involvement with the death. She was subsequently indicted for Felony Murder."

UPDATE

Officials also say when they found the victim's body, it appeared he had sustained a gunshot wound to the groin area.

Kamiyah Street -- the starting point guard for the Kennesaw State basketball team -- was arrested Thursday in Georgia for felony murder, records show.

Officials believe 20-year-old Street is involved in the July 16 shooting death of 21-year-old Nashiem Hubbard-Etienne, whose body was found in a parking lot of an Atlanta-area apartment complex.

Cops believe the victim was specifically targeted.

Street -- a big star for the KSU Owls -- was arrested Thursday and has been hit with 8 criminal charges including murder, 3 counts of felony murder, criminal attempt to commit armed robbery, 2 counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Cops say 3 other suspects have been arrested and they're still on the hunt for 1 more.

The KSU basketball has suspended Street indefinitely -- which is a big deal considering she's averaged 21 points and 5 rebounds in the first 4 games of the 2019 season.

KSU issued a statement saying, "We were made aware Thursday evening that Kamiyah Street of the KSU women’s basketball team was arrested and is being held, pending charges."

"The individual has been suspended indefinitely from all women’s basketball team and athletic activities. Neither the university nor the athletic department have any additional information at this time."

KSU has already removed Steet from the team's official website.

Jim Cornette My Fried Chicken Comment Wasn't Racist ... 'It's A Starvation Joke'

Jim Cornette
"IT WASN'T RACIST"

"It's a starvation joke, not a race joke."

That's wrestling announcer Jim Cornette trying to justify the "fried chicken" comment he made during an episode of "NWA Power" earlier this week ... and yeah, yikes.

If you missed it, Cornette tried to describe a wrestler's toughness by saying, "He’s the only man I’ve ever known that can strap a bucket of fried chicken on his back and ride a motor scooter across Ethiopia."

Jim Cornette
THE OFFENSIVE COMMENTS

The comment was immediately hit with outrage, with people calling the remark racist ... and even wrestling legend Mark Henry told us he found the statement to be completely out of line.

But, Cornette went on his podcast, "Jim Cornette Experience," on Friday to try to explain himself ... and said he was surprised people thought he was being racist.

"It's a starvation joke, not a race joke," Cornette said. "Whether it's a good joke or a bad joke, it was a joke that has been told on TBS, USA Network, broadcast television stations across America over a variety of locations for the past 30 years."

Cornette added, "I’m not that sorry, 'cause it was a joke. And, if you don’t like the joke, that’s fine and I’d even apologize for a bad joke. But, this goddamn feedback was above and beyond the offense. And, I didn’t mean it in any racist way, for f**k's sake."

Cornette also addressed the "fried chicken" aspect of the comments ... saying he only used that for the food item in the joke because "A bucket of chicken sounds funnier. It's a funnier visual than a f**king plate of sushi."

Doesn't seem the NWA was laughing either way ... they said Cornette's comments were "both offensive and do not meet the high standards of decency and good faith of the National Wrestling Alliance."

In that same statement, the wrestling league announced Cornette had resigned from the company.

Browns' Myles Garrett Doubles Down On Rudolph Racial Slur Claim ... 'I Know What I Heard'

Published
UPDATE

4:09 PM PT -- Myles Garrett is not backing down from claims Mason Rudolph hurled a racial slur at him during the helmet-throwing incident ... saying "I know what I heard."

UPDATE

Garrett just issued a statement ripping the NFL ... accusing league officials of leaking confidential information from his appeal hearing to the media.

UPDATE

Here's his statement in full ...

UPDATE

"I was assured that the hearing was space that afforded the opportunity to speak openly and honestly about the incident that led to my suspension," Garrett says. "This was not meant for public dissemination, nor was it a convenient attempt to justify my actions or restore my image in the eyes of those I disappointed."

UPDATE

"I know what I heard. Whether my opponent's comment was born out of frustration or ignorance, I cannot say. But his actions do not excuse my lack of restraint in the moment, and I truly regret the impact this has had on the league, the Browns and our devoted fans."

UPDATE

1:14 PM PT -- The NFL says it investigated Garrett's allegation and found "no such evidence" that Rudolph hurled a racial slur.

UPDATE

"We looked into it and found no such evidence," NFL spokesperson Brian McCarthy said.

Myles Garrett told NFL officials Steelers QB Mason Rudolph hurled a racial slur at him before the infamous helmet attack ... though Rudolph is calling BS.

As we previously reported, the Cleveland Browns star met with NFL officials to appeal the length of his suspension from the Nov. 14 incident.

During the meeting, Garrett told his side of the story ... and claimed it was a racial slur from Rudolph that got him so pissed off, he ripped off the QB's helmet and attacked him with it, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

But, Rudolph is VEHEMENTLY denying the claim -- his lawyer has already issued a statement calling the allegation a flat-out lie.

"This false allegation was never asserted by Garrett in the aftermath of the game, never suggested prior to the hearing, and conspicuously absent in the apology published by the Browns and adopted by Garrett."

"The malicious use of this wild and unfounded allegation is an assault on Mason's integrity which is far worse than the physical assault witnessed on Thursday."

"This is reckless and shameful."

Browns head coach Freddie Kitchens just addressed the situation at Browns practice on Thursday, saying, "I stand by Myles and that's not going to waver. I'll support Myles in every way possible."

Kitchens refused to disclose what he and Myles talked about following the incident.

Washington Redskins Montae Nicholson Will Play Sunday ... Despite Death Probe

Published | Updated

Montae Nicholson will play for the Washington Redskins on Sunday despite being a key figure in a police investigation into the death of a 21-year-old woman, the team says.

"As of right now, he is active," Redskins head coach Bill Callahan said Wednesday.

"He did play Sunday and right now he is on the active roster and is scheduled to play."

TMZ Sports broke the story ... the 23-year-old safety claims he's cooperating with authorities in the death of 21-year-old Julia Crabbe, who died of a suspected drug overdose Thursday morning.

Officials say Montae and another man dropped Julia off at a Virginia hospital in the middle of the night and then left the scene, despite the fact she appeared dead on arrival.

Investigators believe Crabbe had been at Montae's home before the OD -- so they got a search warrant and found marijuana, pills and "foil with residue" inside.

It's important to note cops have not said if the drugs belonged to (or were provided by) Nicholson -- and he has NOT been formally accused of any wrongdoing.

For his part, Montae claims he did NOT leave the hospital on the night in question -- and stuck around to help out until Crabbe's family arrived.

Nicholson suited up and played for the Redskins just 3 days after Crabbe's death -- and was on the field for 70 of the Redskins' 71 defensive snaps, recording 5 combined tackles.

The Redskins take on the Detroit Lions at home on Sunday in a game that's really meaningless for Washington, since they've only won 1 game this season and have virtually no shot at the playoffs.

... Which begs the question -- is playing on Sunday REALLY the best decision?

Female MMA Fighter Dies After Collapsing In Ring ... Cops Investigating

Published

A 26-year-old female amateur MMA fighter died Sunday morning ... just one day after collapsing in the ring following a brutal loss at an event in England.

The Hampshire Police Dept. confirmed they were called to Southampton General Hospital around 1 AM on Sunday to respond to a woman who suffered a life-threatening brain injury.

The woman, Saeideh Aletaha, had competed at the Fast & Furious Fight series event at Central Hall in Southampton, England on Saturday ... and reportedly collapsed in the ring.

According to local reports, an ambulance was called to the venue around 9 PM and Aletaha was rushed to the hospital in "a serious and life-threatening condition."

Cops say Aletaha died at the hospital Sunday morning -- and they're now investigating her death.

Organizers behind the F&FFS event posted a statement early Monday morning essentially saying Aletaha knew what she signed up for ...

"All competitors get in [the ring] prepared that they may be injured and this is something not expected to happen 99.9% of the time."

FFS organizers say they had a full medical team on-site -- with doctors, paramedics and an ambulance -- along with an "experienced team of staff with numerous first aiders."

Exile Gym, where Aletaha trained, posted a tribute to the fighter ... saying, "Saeideh Aletaha was a lovely character with a beautiful soul. Her dedication to the sport was 110% travelling miles every day just to train."

"She found her place with us just a few months ago but has become apart of the family and will be sorely missed."

Colin Kaepernick ATL Workout Wraps ... 'Ball's In Their Court'

Published | Updated
Colin just showed up to his new workout location in Atlanta, which is a high school that's reportedly about an hour away from the Falcons practice facility. He rolled up in a sprinter van with a small entourage of people accompanying him.
BACK IN ACTION
UPDATE

3:35 PM PT -- Colin Kaepernick just addressed the media, and thanked them for coming out. He says he and his team were seeking transparency in his workout process and felt he wasn't getting that elsewhere.

UPDATE
Colin Kaepernick
YOUR MOVE, NFL
UPDATE

Colin then challenged Roger Goodell and the rest of the NFL teams, asking them to stop running from the truth and to stop running from the people. He added that he's ready to play, has been ready to play and is eagerly waiting from a team to call him.

UPDATE

Kap ended by saying the ball was in the league's court now.

UPDATE

2:57 PM PT -- As for the number of teams represented at Colin's new workout, it appears at first glance that only a fraction of them came out to actually watch ... at least based on who's on the ground.

UPDATE

A reporter snapped a shot of Colin thanking scouts from the Redskins, the Jets and the Chiefs. He reportedly thanked them for coming out and then added, "When you go back, tell your owners to stop being scared."

UPDATE
UPDATE

Personnel for the Eagles were also reportedly on hand, but it's unclear who else might've been out there watching. If this is it though, it's less than a quarter of the 25 reported teams that were sending folks out to watch Colin today.

UPDATE

2:42 PM PT -- Colin's workout appears to have just finished -- about an hour and a half after it got started. He's made his way over to a gate where it looks like he's signing autographs as the media looks on from afar.

UPDATE

2:00 PM PT -- The NFL just released a statement saying that Colin actually MISSED his scheduled workout, which seems to imply that whatever he's doing right now is NOT NFL sponsored.

UPDATE

The league goes on to say that despite its best efforts to cooperate with him and his team's ever-changing requests ... he pulled out last minute and is now going rogue on the plan. Just a few things they say they agreed to -- letting Colin bring his own receivers for his drills; allowing Coach Hue Jackson run drills for him; allowing Nike to shoot an ad featuring Colin as well as mentioning the 25 teams represented there.

UPDATE
UPDATE

The NFL then says that after it sent a standard liability waiver to Colin to sign -- something they say they send to all free agent players coming out for a combine -- they got it back completely rewritten by Colin's camp, which the league found unacceptable.

UPDATE

There's more, which you can read for yourself. The NFL makes a point to say that Colin is still an unrestricted free agent and that any team is free to sign him.

UPDATE

1:48 PM PT -- The workout is being broadcast live, and Colin is currently warming up on the football field. He's wearing a black shirt that reads "KUNTA KINTE" and is stopping to take photos and say hello to fans periodically.

UPDATE

1:39 PM PT -- As Colin's workout gets underway, we've learned some interesting info as to why the location was changed in the first place -- which completely contradicts Colin's assertion that the NFL wouldn't allow the media into the Falcons practice facility.

UPDATE

An NFL source tells TMZ Sports that despite what Colin and his camp broadcast on Saturday with a last-minute change for what's been described as transparency purposes, we're being told Colin himself had inquired about media accessibility when these talks first got started.

UPDATE

We're told the implication behind Colin's question was that he didn't want media there, as our source tells us he wanted to avoid a circus-like atmosphere. In other words, we're told the league is completely baffled by Kap and his team's reasoning on changing locations.

UPDATE

Our source tells us point blank ... Kap could've had the media join in at the Falcons practice facility if he wanted, but we're told he never made that request to begin with.

UPDATE

1:24 PM PT -- Colin just showed up to his new workout location in Atlanta, which is a high school that's reportedly about an hour away from the Falcons practice facility. He rolled up in a sprinter van with a small entourage of people accompanying him.

UPDATE
UPDATE

Eric Reid -- one of Colin's good friends -- is reportedly on hand as well to show support. It also doesn't look like Hue Jackson is gonna show to run Kap through drills -- he's reportedly headed back to the airport after flying in earlier Saturday.

UPDATE

12:11 PM PT -- Colin's team is now saying that if the guy's still up for it, they'd like to keep the invite open for former Browns coach Hue Jackson to oversee the drills and workout Colin will now go through at the Atlanta-area school. Jackson was originally scheduled to lead Kap through QB drills at the Falcon facility -- time will tell if he'll show to the new location.

More drama!

Colin Kaepernick will NOT have his NFL workout at the Atlanta Falcons facility at 12 PM PT as planned ... but it will go down at a separate location.

According to Colin's reps, the NFL refused to allow media to observe the workout, which didn't jive with Kap.

Also, Kap's team claims the NFL wanted him to sign an "unusual liability waiver" which "rejected the standard liability waiver from physical injury proposed by Mr. Kaepernick's representatives."

"Based on prior conduct by the NFL league office, Mr. Kaepernick simply asks for a transparent and open process."

As a result, Kaepernick is moving the workout to a nearby high school and it will be open to the media.

"Mr. Kaepernick looks forward to seeing the representatives from the clubs today."

We're told Kap has a team of WRs to work with and plans on going through with the workout at 1 PM PT.

A bunch of protesters and supporters alike had gathered outside the Falcons facility to both cheer and speak out against Kap. Guessing they'll be moving to the new location as well.

Stay tuned ...

NBA Legend Bill Russell Ends Hall of Fame Boycott ... Finally Accepts Ring

Published

NBA legend Bill Russell -- one of the greatest basketball players ever -- has finally accepted his Hall of Fame ring after a 45-year boycott.

85-year-old Russell was elected into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1975 -- but refused to participate in the induction ceremony. At the time, Russell cited "his own personal reasons," but didn't expand on it.

But, Thursday night, things changed ... Russell participated in a private ceremony with Alonzo Mourning, hoops legend/broadcaster Ann Meyers, Bill Walton, his wife and others to accept his HOF ring.

And, why? It all has to do with ex-NBA star Chuck Cooper, who in 1950 became one of the first black players to compete in the NBA. He was the first black player selected in the NBA Draft when the Boston Celtics took him with the 14th overall pick.

Cooper, who passed away in 1984, is FINALLY being inducted into the Hall ... which is what Russell has been waiting for all along.

"In ‘75 I refused being the 1st black player to go into the [Hall of Fame]. I felt others before me should have that honor. Good to see progress; ChuckCooperHOF19 @NBA."

As for Russell, you probably already know his stats -- 11-time NBA champion, 5-time NBA MVP, 12-time NBA All-Star ... and the NBA Finals MVP Award is named after him.
