Bill Withers 'Lean On Me' Singer Dead at 81

Bill Withers -- the soulful singer-songwriter known for his string of hits in the '70s -- has died from heart complications ... according to his family.

Withers died Monday in Los Angeles, but his family announced it Friday morning, saying ... "We are devastated by the loss of our beloved, devoted husband and father. A solitary man with a heart driven to connect to the world at large, with his poetry and music, he spoke honestly to people and connected them to each other."

The 3-time Grammy Award winner's death comes as the world is turning to his sweet music for inspiration and encouragement during the coronavirus pandemic ... especially his 1972 hit, "Lean On Me."

Quarantined residents in a Dallas apartment building sat in their windowsills a couple weeks ago, singing the song to lift their spirits.

Withers began recording and performing just 2 years prior in 1970, scoring his first smash single with "Ain't No Sunshine" from his debut album, "Just As I Am" ... released in 1971. The song won the Grammy for R&B song of the year.

He'd go on to land several other hits -- including "Use Me," "Just the Two of Us" and "Lovely Day" -- until he withdrew from making music in 1985 to live a more private life.

Bill was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015, and his songs have been endlessly sampled for other artists' hits from the '90s into this century.

His family says ... "As private a life as he lived close to intimate family and friends, his music forever belongs to the world."

Withers was 81.

Meghan Markle Listen to Her Disney Film 'Elephant' Narration ... Pool Party Time!!!

BACK IN THE GAME
GMA

Meghan Markle got back on the bike by narrating a Disney nature documentary, and take a listen ... she didn't skip a beat.

Disney+ just dropped the Disney Nature documentary, "Elephant," narrated by Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex -- and the teaser just aired on 'GMA.' The doc, of course, is special to her. She's done a ton of work in the past to help elephants, and proceeds will go to help an org near and dear to her ... Elephant Without Borders.

Meghan narrates the migration of Shani and her family. The elephant family is tracked as they make a 1,000-mile, 8-month trek across Africa. Ya gotta listen reaaaal closely, 'cause it almost doesn't sound like Meghan. But, it's her.

As we reported ... Meghan's making her Hollywood comeback nearly a year after Prince Harry went to bat for Meghan when he pitched former Disney head Bob Iger.

Harry's lobbying clearly worked ... it wasn't long after that Meghan landed the narrating gig. BTW ... Disney Plus also dropped "Dolphin Reef" narrated by Natalie Portman.

Drake Honors Kobe Again ... L.A. Jerseys In New 'Toosie Slide' Video

Drake is honoring Kobe Bryant once again ... this time the rapper laid out the Mamba's Lakers jerseys in his new "Toosie Slide" music video -- and the tribute is pretty awesome.

Drake debuted the vid for his soon-to-be-smash-hit song Thursday ... and it didn't even take a full minute into the footage before the NBA superfan paid homage to Kobe.

You can see in the video ... Drake laid out Bryant's #8 and #24 jerseys on the table, and he let the camera pan to them as he danced around his Toronto-area mansion.

Of course, Drizzy is a HUGE Kobe fan despite his Raptors roots ... and after Bryant's death in January, Drake's paid homage to the L.A. legend every chance he's had.

In an Instagram post, just hours after Kobe's helicopter crashed on Jan. 26, Drake threw up a picture of him in a "Farewell Mamba" jacket with the caption, "It can't be."

Drake also painted the numbers 8 and 24 on his in-home basketball court just a few weeks ago as well.

TRIBUTE ON THE COURT

Tons of celebs have poured out tributes to Kobe almost daily since his tragic death ... Lakers superstars LeBron James and Anthony Davis got tattoos of the Mamba ... while NFL stud Derrick Henry even got a custom Kobe chain.

Richard Simmons Coronavirus Comeback??? Sweatin' Thru the Quarantine!!!

Richard Simmons is helping people struggling through these days of self-isolation -- an area of expertise for him -- by making a comeback of sorts ... strictly online.

The beloved, former fitness mogul has been out of the public eye since February 2014, but 3 weeks ago his YouTube channel began posting for the first time in 6 years ... right around the time Americans began getting ordered to stay inside to stop the spread of coronavirus.

The material is nothing new -- it's old 'Signature Moves' clips, workouts and motivational messages -- but sources close to Simmons tell TMZ ... the revival is due to fans clamoring for him to return and lead them through at-home exercise routines again.

The need for this doesn't get much greater than during a pandemic ... so we're told Richard's team obliged with the new video posts.

Our sources say Simmons' team is also working on a new line of licensed products to be released later this year. It's unclear exactly what it will include, but in 2018 he released a calendar and some classic exercise merch ... so maybe something similar.

Remember, Richard hasn't been physically seen since we got a partial glimpse of him returning home from the hospital in April 2017 ... and there's only been Bigfoot-esque sightings of him for years before that.

So the mystery -- and it's a big mystery -- where is Richard?  He's not in the videos, which are year's old.  Cops did a few welfare checks several years ago and said he was ok, but why isn't he at least introducing the videos?

We're told despite the flurry of Richard's YouTube vids, he's still not decided when or if he'll make a return to the spotlight ... but the recent activity is giving his fans hope.

Until then, you'd have to subscribe to Simmons' fan club newsletter to get a regular dose of his musings ... like the one he sent out just this week encouraging his fans to stay positive ... and check out his recipe for a flourless vegetable quiche.

Texas Rangers Prospect Suffers Gnarly Injury ... Slipped On Son's Toy In Quarantine

Bored as hell during quarantine?? Hey, it could be A LOT worse ... 'cause a Texas Rangers pitching prospect just suffered a nasty knee injury tripping on his son's toy while at home.

The MLB farmhand -- former Seattle Mariners 4th-round pick James Jones -- was staying at his place Monday in Arizona when he reportedly tripped on his kid's toy and landed awkwardly.

Jones ended up shredding the patellar tendon in his right knee ... and immediately underwent season-ending surgery.

It's a brutal break for the 31-year-old lefty ... he was expected to compete for a bullpen spot on the Rangers' roster this year once MLB resumed play after its coronavirus suspension.

Of course, Jones is no stranger to surgery adversity ... the outfielder-turned-pitcher has already dealt with Tommy John surgery in his career and bounced back from that.

But, all of this is just another reminder ... be safe out there -- both outside AND at home.

Guess Who This Curly Hair Cutie Turned Into!

Before this dapper little dude with a head full of brown curls was crushing the music scene with his original rap lyrics, eye-popping music videos and Earth-shattering causes ... he was just another happy kid growing up in Pennsylvania.

This mini man with a pimped out pattern on his shirt may be getting paid now but you won't see a dime of that in his new rap look! The current incarnation of the cutie (real name David Andrew Burd) takes a more frugal approach to fame.

He's collaborated with music great like Chris Brown, Fetty Wap, Snoop Dogg and many more.

Can you guess who he is?

The rapper's team claims he got a positive diagnosis for coronavirus Thursday while being held in Broward County jail.

YNW Melly also says he hopes to get some support from his fans, and he's asking for positive energy and prayers as he tries to recover and beat the virus.

Melly's team also says he will be filing legal docs seeking restricted release from jail in order to get better healthcare. His reps also claim the jail is not prepared to treat the novel virus.

As you know ... YNW Melly's been sitting in a Florida jail for more than a year after being arrested and charged in the double murder of two of his friends.

Disney Annual Pass Holders Get Relief ... Refunds On the Way!!!

Disney is making its most loyal fans happy by pausing payments for annual pass holders and refunding monthly payments during the coronavirus pandemic.

Here's the deal ... the Mouse House just announced it will no longer continue charging Annual Pass members while its parks remain closed due to the virus, and it's refunding scheduled monthly payments that were changed since the outbreak.

As we reported ... Disney pissed off a lot of people by continuing to charge Pass holders at a time when millions of folks are hurting for cash.

Disney posted an update to the annual pass holder payment policy Thursday, offering some much needed financial relief in a dark time. The policy flip will ease minds and wallets, and seek to undo some very bad optics.

Disney also says park pass holders who already paid in full for their annual passes can get a partial refund for the period the theme parks are closed.

The new policy kicks in this Sunday, when Disney says it will halt automatic payments and waive all upcoming monthly payments while the parks remain shuttered.

The refunds will apply to monthly payments made between March 14 and April 4. Once the parks reopen, Disney says payments will resume as scheduled.
